Hi all
Just bought myself a 55 plate GTI which will be ready for collection this saturday. I've been on a fair few forums and I have to say after reading through 33 pages of topics (I did a bit of research) that the people here seem sensible and pretty nice. Looking forward to getting peoples opinions and joining in the conversation.
Car is reflex silver, 3dr, no xenons (booo) but some new bulbs are on the way to help with this issue. I've ordered a Milltek exhaust, Carbonio airbox, and after extensive reading of the posts on this forum will be getting a Revo map to finish things off. Wheels are the only other thing I'm going to change but can't decide between RS4 replica's or Smoke coloured Konig Theory???
Also has anyone seen the OEM rear LED's they have in europe, pics look pretty good?
-
unless I'm mistaken, I dont think there is OEM LEDs on any regular Golfs yet, they already exist on Golf Plus.
unless anyone knows any different?
-
What bulbs have you ordered to help with your issue, i dont have xenons on my golf (which sucks) and would like them bulbs that do give the similiar look, but i just dont know THAT much about cars....
-
oh shall we start a thread on whether these xenon bulbs should be fitted!!, i wonder what you think T.T, if its a good idea??

i think he means uprated halogen bulbs, like the Osram Silver stars or Philips ones.

haha nah not replacing the whole headlights just the bulbs. Was considering either Philips or Osram. Looking at the reviews I went for the Osram SilverStar, they seem pretty popular.
These are the LED rears I was talking about:

From the listing they seem to be for our car. Although looking at the Pic the outer light seems to be a different shape

Can't personally comment on the Osrams, as I've always used Philips, and been very happy with the quality (unlike Lucas bulbs, which are truely shocking in quality!)
I personally use www.PowerBulbs.com, as they are one of the honest, "no-bull", and well-established internet retailers, who also have physical stands at various motorshows and events.

They look lush, and they are definately the boys for the Mk5, as the 1K0 bit of the part number proves. And if they are made by Hella, then they will be "E" approved, and OEM quality, so will be perfectly legal. My only concern would be to check they are simply "plug and play", or would they need re-coding in the relevent ECU, due to the different current drain, which will affect the bulb monitoring in the MFD.
Oh, and make sure you get the correct sides for fog and reverse lamps!

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep them in my favourites just in case the SilverStars are not up to the job.
I was looking at the R32 rear lights until I spotted these. They do look nice.

I've ordered a Milltek exhaust, Carbonio airbox, and after extensive reading of the posts on this forum will be getting a Revo map to finish things off.
....Sounds familiar!
Which Milltek?
The Carbonio won't make much noticeable difference without also having the Milltek and the remap.
I can very strongly recommend Jim at JKM Portsmouth as a Revo tuner who knows his onions and will give you excellent personal service (as will Kate). They're not the closest but worth the journey in my opinion. A small family business of true enthusiasts.
My advice would be to get to know the car as it is for a couple of thousand miles before modding, or at least before remapping.

I got a full system/Hi-flo cat with the twin 72mm back box. Not really a fan of the quad exhaust look.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll let the exhaust bed in first then get the remap done. That will probably be after xmas now.
-
....I've got the same Milltek system: Non-Resonated Hi-flow+Downpipe but with quad final exits from the rear box.

Anyone running those rear LED clusters and have problems with teh computer?
