im relativly sure you can buy sets for a mk2 golf from the dealers... wont be cheap as chips, but will have decent keys and quality barrels

Replacements are easy to get hold of (volkspare/eurocarparts etc...)  and you can switch the pins around inside the barrels to make the new lock fit your current key

Just undo the screw at the back of the barrel (with a key in it) turn the key slightly and pull it out, carefully remove the key from the barrel, then swap the new pins for old one by one - job done

I thought that, until i went to do it! Both keys were the same code (AH off the top of my head), yet the spacing for the pins in the barrel was completely different between the two locks!

You sure you didn't get your AH's mixed up with your HA's ?  one's Mk1 the others mk2 and the keys are very different.  you can use mk2 keys in a mk1 lock but not mk1 keys in mk2 locks (or is it the other way around  :undecided: )

Deffo AH, it was on an 88 Golf. Both keys went into both barrels, but it was when i came to swapping the pins that i found the spacing was different so gave up.

Not got the car anymore so not arsed about sorting it, was just warning the other chap.

cheers guys. ive only got the one key so will need a set with two keys. want to de-lock and add an alarm with remote central locking but just want two keys so both me and the mrs can have a separate set each. best start searching the breakers.
