Title: Brake dust

Hi all, could you please give me some advice on why my rear wheels on my ED30 have the same build up of brake dust as the front ones?  I have had the car from new since 1st March, it's a DSG with just over 3500 miles, my previous Mkv Gti had DSG and I didn't notice this at all.  The car doesn't get driven hard all over the place or anything like that and I do clean it.... a lot :nerd:

Probably down to the materials they use in brake pads these days. Fronts work harder than rears - probably 80/20 split. Are you an aggressive
breaker :huh:

My rears show less dust than fronts but not much and the dust on both front and rear callipers is the same.

Assuming you have no pulling to one side when breaking, I'd say this is normal - you'll just have to clean the wheels more regularly :wink:

Since putting on 18" BBS wheels of the same style as the Pescara of the Ed30 on the GTI and removing the 17" Monza wheels I too have noticed higher levels of dust on the rears, maybe it is something in the spoke/wheel design that makes the dust appear more obvious....just a thought !!

The car feels fine when braking, no pulling etc and  I use a wheel sealant so the wheels are easy enough to keep on top of :nerd:  Maybe it's just me thinking the rear one's should look a lot cleaner!  I do take it easy on the brakes, I'm getting used to the paddle shift at the moment, rather than using 'D' mode all the time.

phil1101: I did have the 17 Monzas on my previous GTi, so it could be that :wink:

I've got 18" Monzas and there is very little brake dust to be honest. Mind you, the car is washed at least every week, sometimes more if I've got nothing better to do :rolleyes:

I think this is superb, a few people apply 2 coats but I find that 1 is enough, when cleaning time comes around, the brake dust comes away very easily.  :nerd:

Yep, agreed, I use this too and its superb. Smells nice too  :smiley:

Rigsby, are you sure you are fully releasing the handbrake?

Or maybe the handbrake is slightly out of adjustment.

Then again, VW may have modified the rear pad material, to be slightly softer!
