 Hi everyone, I'm having a nightmare with my gti, i have only had it 5 weeks and i need to get this off my chest. First thing i had to have a new Stereo fitted, no biggie was in the the dealers for a day, then i noticed a grinding sound when turning the wheel to the left at low speed, waiting to book it in for that. Next the the drivers window wouldn't go down or up with one touch of the button and today the drivers seat gave up on me, will fold but not go forward to let people in the back. Car is 05 GTI with 23000 miles candy white. Can anyone make me feel better please??

No not a works model, just caught me by surprise entering a dual carriageway from a roundabout. By the time I sorted myself out he was too far ahead for me to catch.

the low speed power steering grinding is a common golf fault and applies to all models, mine does it and I'm having it looked at when its serviced. if you search the forums you will find lots of people moaning about it.

Well, after 27k miles I had my entire engine replaced under warranty... TBH, it hasn't put me off the car one bit!
So, you are not too bad off
-
Yeah there is always someone worse off. I think its because its the most expensive and newest car i have ever bought, It doesn't help that the dealer is about as helpful as a poke in the eye
-
My dealer was ok... new engine and 3 new alloys replaced under warranty - although it did take them 2 weeks to do all the work!

thats what gets me, the time it takes to get parts. I had beamers before my Ed30 and never had to wait for a part - always in stock and fixed same day! Including steering racks!! I had 2 wait 3 weeks for a new air con unit for the golf
-
TBH I was OK with two weeks... I just wasn't OK with being told it would only take 1 week and then not being called!! I only found out it was going to take longer because I phoned them up on the day I was meant to collect the car!
It amazes me that the automotive service industry still lags behind basic levels of customer service... my only exception to this is when I had the Skoda Fabia vRS... had 4 services in two years and one warranty issue... all work was done well, service levels and communication was superb... all in all and excellent experience!!

The VW dealer I use is probably about 20% as good as the BMW dealer I used. The thing is I really dont care that the BMW dealer had a barber or would take you to the cinema whilst your car was being serviced, I dont care that they had a B&O TV and stations to work from in their lounge (internet etc). All I cared about was that they did the job well and communicated properly. It would cost my VW dealer nothing to be as good as my old BMW dealer but they clearly just dont care as much.
