With the colder months just around the corner, and a noisy water pump with a slight leak, i thought it was time to get out the spanners!! I decided that i would give the 'get rid of the bypass valve' mod a go, as everyone seems to swear by it, so after changing the water pump, thermostat, and housing, i set to it. Piece of cake, and extremely hot air, lovely jubbly !!
For anyone who hasn't done this yet, get yourself some 7/8" copper pipe, and get rid of that bypass valve.
You know it makes sense !!

the bypass valve isnt expencive from vw, id rather buy a new one tbh

I thought the main reason for people doing this is that they aren't available from vw anymore?
-
not as cheap as the mod though, and it won't pack up again !!

but you might get a hot heater matrix explode on your lap! the one i bought was around 25quid

vw recalled and fitted these as a precautionary, after a couple of matrix leaked. Can't see them exploding anyhow, leak yes, but not explode.
each to their own, i'm happy with the mod.

ok well however it comes out i still dont want my balls being scolded with hot water  its gonna be under pressure remember

later golfs had a stronger matrix i believe anyway. I too took mine off as its crap and restricts a lot of heat in winter.
