I think i've identified the problem, there a rod poking up to which my short shifter attaches onto. I think there is a rubber missing. Am i correct? There seems to be alot of play in it when i think it should be pretty tight. Nte only have problems with 1st.
Got a pic if needed?
Thanks
Tim

Yeah, I get a bit of a crunch when changing down from 2nd to 1st. But it's ok if I just change down slowly.
I changed the long & short selector rods hoping that it would be cured, but no luck. And bought a relay shaft bush off mk2mark just to take up the sloppy movement out the gear change, (it dont crunch as bad with his bush in now though) but I think I'll have a go at the shift lever adjustment next, as per here http://www.iol.ie/~kilkennyhockey//BentleyManual/TM01/ch4.1.1.html Fig.4-5, but I need to get a feeler guage first to get the distance right.

anymore ideas for this. I need to get the rubber sorted if there is one. It's a pain pulling away!
Can get some decent pics if you want.

Its not rubber - its a poly bush. I've got a couple spare, PM me your address and I'll post one to you ;)

You need two, one at the top and one at the bottom. Rubjonny made a great howto here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=33100.0
The bushes are the 2 clear type and slightly larger than the others in the pic. I think the VAG ones are prolly better than the GSF ones though. (Firmer and better quality)
