Title: Brakes, wheel size and weight
Post by: ghentlan on 22 August 2007, 19:29
Hi all,

I'm sorting my car out for track days and have some questions about wheel sizes and brakes.  Bear with me, I'm new at this...

BTW, I've just read http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=32753.0  and it was very helpful, but didn't quite answer all my questions...

I have a mk2 16v, 1987, so thats the 239mm brakes I believe.  Will I have to change the wheels to fit 256mm?

There seems to be some debate about whether 280s fit into 15s.  Whats the largest brake size you can go for with 16s?

Do I need to change the master cylinder when I upgrade the brakes (or is it wise to), in which case what size do I need?

Are there any resources for finding out about the weight of alloys?  I'm after a very lightweight wheel, moreso than for looks, but none of the sites I've found so far tell you much about the weights.

Many thanks,
Mark

My Mk4 had 280's up front and standard Avus2 15" Alloys.... Don't know if that helps much, there was also some space around the edgo of the caliper just incase you have a deeper one...
