Title: camshaft bearing shells
Post by: elnigel on 25 February 2004, 03:05
just started stripping down my 1989 8v digifant for a full overhaul and noticed that my cam bearings go 1,2,3,5 theres a big gap and number 4 bearing is completely missing!

the haynes manual shows 5 bearings, is my car normal or has something very strange happened?

 ???

Thats perfectly normal.........some heads have that big gap and a  bearing missing. Can't remember which heads do and which don't but at a guess I would say the hydraulic tappet heads have the bearing missing.

Yep rich your tickety boo, the later hydraulic heads from mid '86 on have the  4th bearing missing.  The cam cover also has a yellow sticker on it denoting non adjustable tappets.
