Ok, so we've had the "What have you beaten at the lights......" post and last night I pulled up along a 56 Plate A3 2.0 TDi. I don't know anything else other than that (Oh and it was Dark Silver 3 Door)
So the lights turn and he sets off a little before me and seems to be going for it, so I thought oh well I'll leave him....... I caught him up, snatched second and then thought "he's still there beside me"
I then discovered a new burst of life as I snatched 3rd.... a little screetch from the tyres as the power caused the wheels to spin slightly and I edged infront.
Ok so I passed him (the two lanes became one so good job really) but it did make me think how quick it was, and how the old Diesel is so much more economic blah blah cheaper insurance, good residuals....
So, I'm really hoping it was a 170 bhp A3 and not the 140, otherwise I'd be selling the golf now!
-
not sure if there are any exterior differences between the 170 and the 140 like there are on the MK5 GT's but a standard 170 with the auto box is only about a second slower 0-60
there is also a change it could have been a remapped 140
-
would it be twin tail pipes?? not sure how Audi's do differentiate :undecided:
one step closer to diesel world domination Ridge :afro:
-
A3 140: 0-60 = 9.5
A3 170: 0-60 = 8.2
A3 170 (S Tronic): 0-60 = 7.8
Ok, hope it was the S tronic

not sure either, might have to try the audi dealership over the bank holiday

derv is the future! IMO

yeah the auto boxes really work in the derv's and they seam to change up to the right point for the turbo so no lag

Friend from work as a 2.0 TDI A3. Alright its faaaairly quick, nothing to rave about though. No idea if its 140 or 170 tho. No where near quick enough to worry a MK5. I would have said a 1.8T MK4 is quicker. His only just a little bit quicker than me (2.0 MK4) and I mean a little. Come to think of it he must be a 140.
-
It MUST have been a 170, my dad had the 140 and it was quick, but nowhere near my golf. As mentioned, he set off as soon as the lights changed, where I had to put it into first and go. Only when I put my foot down to pass and he obviously floored it did I suddenly start to wonder if I was going to make it. Luckily 3rd Gear and the extra oomph saw me pass but I was impressed with the A3's ability
-
sounds like you should have given the 170 the respect it deserves in the first place lol
-
Naaaaaah
Next time overtake it even faster!
-
At the next set of lights I looked over to him to acknowledge the performance but he was a proper noob and totally blanked me. Maybe he thought he'd be quicker, and he's the one who should repsect GTi's
-
respect even!
-
lol if he thought he was going to be quicker then he needs his head checked.

does sound like a bit of a mug, if someone wants to give you the thumbs up or nob you at least acknowledge them

I actually think he did. As mentioned, it's a dual lane set of lights which merges into one after you cross the junction, he was out to cross over first, no doubt about that. Unfortunately I've been reading threads on here about "Who've you beaten from the lights" and having been to good old B&Q for a stupid "elbow joint" to fix my shower, I had to give chase! Sad I Know
-
lol not sad at all :D
Your a man, in a car, thats fast. What do you expect.
-
My previous car was a GT TDI 140 DSG and was chipped and had a Milltek exhaust. As you may have already guessed I have had it down the 1/4 mile and had 0-60mph in 7.33 secs
Drove all the way down to Inters and back had 4 goes down the 1/4mile and still had over a quarter of a tank of fuel when I arrived back in Sheffield
-
Don't underestimate Diesels... I reckon my old Fabia vRS would give the GTi a run for its money through the gears (say past 30mph!)... and that was only 130BHP... mind you, it's all about the torque.

diesels may be the future and have lots of benifits over petrols but petrols sound great id miss the sound of diesels and they sound the same with an uprated exhaust too

Don't think so
Engine sound on a TDI could never match the engine sound of a TFSI.
Exhaust on an uprated TDI and an Uprated TFSI would sound totally different too. Not to mention the black fog of the diesel.
-
Diesel power yeah.
-
oopss i got that mixed up i meant id miss the petrol sound over diesels how imbarrasing, die  sels
