Was going to put my inlet manifold back on today, when i noticed that the large red plastic tube that surrounds the injector when it is inside the head (ie sticking out the bottom of the manifold) has snapped in half.
What is this plastic piece called, and does it mena i need a complete new inject for 25 quid or is it just a ''large sealing ring'' that costs 60p?
Thanks.

that'll need replacing i'm afraid. the bottom of that is where the injector seal sits giving an air tight seal.
-
do you know if its just the seal that'll need replacing or the whole caboodle?
-
you may aswell replace all the injector seals while you're at it as they're only about a quid each.
As for the broken insert , i don't know how you replace it but i'm sure someone will tell you soon.

iirc you need a big ass allen key (can't remember the size) and they screw out. screw new ones in. the old one will probably disintegrate when you try to get it out though
-
Anyone know whereabouts the new inserts can be bought from, or do they come as part of a new injector from GSF?
-
VW part only you need to remove the injector then unbolt the brass injector holder with a big ass allen key think it's 11mm then replace the plastic part and put it all back together :)
-
Yipee.
does 035 133 554 - ''insert for injector'' £1.41 sound right to people?
-
Thats the one matey :)

Trip to the stealers tommorow then, cheers boss!

Did this job a while back and ran into the same problem. I think you need a 13mm hex to remove the brass insert. I only had a 12mm one to hand so beefed it out with loads of cellotape to see if that would work (needed it fixed that night).....did ok!

Now im really confused.
bought both the brass insert, the seal and the plastic one from VW.
Pulled the injector out with a bit of a struggle, and the unscrewed the old brass bit with a 12mm (which was an effort). The old plastic then dropped out in an engine bay direction. It had NO seal on it.
So i put the new seal onto the plastic thingy, its was a rap fit and wont sit flat at all, its just too big. I then pushed this through the hole in the inlet manifold. Then i screwed on the new brass bit until it went tight and my 12mm allen bit slipped (fcuking the brass). it sits far higher than the other ones, and the plastic sits a bit lower? I then tried pushing the injector through and it wont go for sh!t. I looked down and the seal looks like its stopping it. then, the plastic fell right through????
Does the injector hold the plastic in place or something, i really dont get it. Oh, and the brass bit is firmly stuck in place.
what the hactual f**kuk is going on?
