Hi
I have an 07 GTi and recently disconnected the battery, the steering seems heavy to me. I'm not sure if its in my head or what. I have seen the tips about turning the steering to the left and right after reconnecting the battery but I still think it is heavier then before.
Anyone with any ideas, can this be adjusted via Vag-Com? If so any Vag-Com heads in Ireland.

Try the dealer. And then also (Its kinda obvious) but check your tyre pressures. :rolleyes:

i'd try your tyre pressures first as this would be a bit cheaper than the dealer lol
its got to be something fairly simple as i wouldn't have thought disconnecting the battery would reset or trip out the power steering :undecided:

Oops... :smiley: should have put the tyre pressures first :grin:
I dont think that this would trip it out. Why not look in the workshop manuals that TT (who is still missing :undecided: ) posted. There should be a manual there that can help.

I have decided it is in my head, recently I had some alignment issues and has gone ultra paranoid about the steering. After a few weeks I dont think its heavy, at low speed in traffic I though it felt heavy but after a country lane blast or two I think its weighted just fine.
I thought about getting Vag-com and checking the steering-assist setting but at €350 for the cable I decided it was okay. My dealer is a bit dim witted regarding anything techical, as an example;
"Can cruise control be retro fitted?"
"Oh no, new cabling and ecu and control box, it would cost about €1000"
"But VW in the UK will do it for £150"
"They cant, it will void the warranty, and anyway UK vehicles are different"
"I dont think so"
"Em.... I think I hear the phone ringing"
Just thought, I might just be so unfit I have weak-girly-arms.........

Should be a simple procedure for dealer to check/adjust steering setting. Standard factory default setting seems to be 3.

The response from your stealer, whilst shocking, is not surprising.
For your steering issue, eat more spinach !!! :grin: :grin:
