My 8v digi has developed the habit of juddering at motorway cruising speeds. It happens at 3500rpm on a steady throttle in 4th and 5th gear. If you floor it the judder stops. If you release it the judder stops. dont know how long its been like this as its in town most of the time.
as always, any help much appreciated.

I am having this same problem, quite scary as i dont have rac membership. Erm i take it leads and plugs and dizzy cap are ok? otherwise, think the hal sender can do stuff like this, let me know if you get it sorted, hope this helps.

This happened to me not so long back. Turned out to be a loose circlip on a fuel line which starved the engine of fuel, as it was leaking out a little. It would judder in the middle revs, flooring it or throuttle off and it would stop. I could smell petrol after I had stopped, so had a look and found a loose pipe. Nipped up the circlip and the juddering stopped.
Maybe worth a look. :undecided:

good plan il check that thanks
-
i've got a similar thing to this! but i thought it was down to the car having fast road cams and the like! i've just had the leads dizzy cap and rotor arm replaced so its not them!
i'm being dumb but where is the best place to start looking?

What is the Hal sender and where is it located?

cheers for sugestion but theres no smell of petrol anywhere, could faulty fuel pump cause this.
Had an old guy at work (I work in IT dept :undecided: ) suggesting 'bunged up injectors' and to get some cleaner for it. Really has me stumped, dont know which way to turn. Dont want to waste my money on parts I dont need. aaaahhh!!! Need to get it fixed soon though as GF is already suggesting getting a proper car
cheers for suggestions

Yeah know what you mean dare not take it on long journeys which is ridiculous! the Hall sender is the electrical connection block inside the dizzy. When it is faulty it can upset timing and idle i believe i am not too sure exactly how it works i better read up on that. Im sure someone will be kind enough to explain given the chance. Hope this helps. Yeah worht trying fuel cleaner im gonna try that. Has it been stood for a while?
-
only a couple of weeks while on hols. It has had the timing belt changed recently by local garage. Guy that did it used to have 8v so assumed he knew his stuff.
GF normally has the car through the week as she is only doing about 15 - 20miles a day. Trying not to rack the mileage up with my commute 70+ per day. Only spotted it when I took it to Leeds to get a quote from paint shop.
-
Yeah just tried some injector cleaner on mine not made any difference , i have a spare dizzy so il try that, as i have had problems before with them, although that time it was temperamental starting. So im stumped, sorry no more help.
-
these are quite common for the vacum pipe from the inlet manifold to brake servo , the rubber pipe preish and causes air . you should hear it hissing if theres leak might be worth a look
-
I had a similar problem to this which turned out to be a small rip in the large hose that goes from the airbox to the injectors, so when you accelarated the engine rocked open the hole up & to much air would be sucked in causing the car to judder violently
-
Well i know this sint my thread, just to let anyone know i sorted mine it turned out to be the dizzy or hall sender and i advanced the timing slightly lots of low down torque now and pulls like a train.! p.s hope you sort yours mate.

does anybody know how much and how easy it is to replace the hall sender? ive just had a new dizzy rotor arm and leads but ive got a judder in 4th and 5th also.
thanks in advance

^^^^^^
BUMP
anyone????
-
hall sensor is in the dizzy?? so to bolts be sure you getit time up when replace it..you said you had new dizzy? or did you mean cap??
-
cap! im thinking it could also be the fuel line thing like someone said about on the first page, but not sure where to start looking! i want to get it sorted for driving down to edition38 next sunday!
-
was in GSF this afternoon and the guys there were talking around £20 for dizzy/hall sender. Cant remember how much exactly as I was in a rush.
-
I just changed the whole dizzy not sure how to replace hall sender tbh, i think its quite fiddly, better to replace the whole dizzy as there cold be up and down wear to the shaft. Hope this helps.

someone on another forum suggested it could be the blue temp sensor...? does anyone no if vw stock the part still? how easy are the blue temp sensors to change..?
also i've posted a new thread about which way the blue plug and the black plug should go becasue ive seen pics with the blue sensor closest to the engine but mine is not! please help i need to sort this out quick!
typical bank holiday weekend too, nowbody oopen to speak to about it!
-
anyone?
-
the blue one should be in front but try swapping the connectors ver if you are unsure, i doubt your temp guage would work if it was wrong. could be that sensor and i have a spare if you want it for a fiver posted? let me know Cheers
