To those fo you in the know.
Any idea what engine code a 1990 (G-plate) Sirocco Scala 1.8 would have? :undecided:
Have just bought a relatively low milage one which i'm collecting tomorrow and I'm curious what code it may be. I'm not too bothered to be honest as its either going in my Mk2 or my brothers Mk1.

It'll be EV if its a k-jet one, otherwise GU if its a carby IIRC?
Edit: Not that it really matters tbh, all the 1.8 bottom ends are identical anyway ;)

I thought k-jet was DX?

Carb version could also be EX.

Early ones with solid lifters were DX, but the later ones with hydro were EV, and I'd say a 90 rocco would probably have the hydro lifter lump :)
EX I assume is the solid lifter version of the GU?

That sounds great! Picked it up on Sat, but not had a chance to have a good look yet. Nice to know it will fit either!! We have a choice of that 1.8 or a 2.0 from a 96 golf. Lots of decisions and engine/head swapping over the next few weeks!!
Thanks all.
