Is it possible to install remote locking to the existing central locking on my MK 4 Golf ?
Just lazy, although my last car had remote locking and I miss it.

I thought the MK4 has remote CL ???
-
Perhaps I should clarify :-[
Mine is an import. I have to put the key into the lock to operate the central locking.
What I mean is a remote "infra red" ? locking/unlocking facility.
I guess I would have to fit an alarm system for this ?

doesn't your key have any bottons on it then??
or the neat little flick key thing??
if not, its probably a main dealer jobbie to order new key and programme it into the cars central locking system

yeah think also you may have to purchase remote key then get programmed into car, the alarm/cl system should be on the car but may not be activated you will nedd either main dealer to activate this or some one with the vagcom software. ;D

Thanks guys. I will speak to my dealer.
Bet it will cost a fortune to get a new remote and reprogramme it though :(
My key does have a button on it, but all it does is activate a little light so you can see where you are putting the key when it's dark.

Surely there is a cheaper option than going to the VW dealer.
Have a look on the net to see if you can buy a Remote CL kit so you can install it yourself

Definitely dont get it done at the dealer. I got quoted about ?500 to make my Mk3 GTI remote CL. I got another quote from an independent company (sunroofs, stereos, alarms, etc) for about ?100 + vat to make it remote CL...or as already mentioned you can just buy the interface for about ?60 and do it yourself. Where abouts are you as the places I got quotes from were in Gloucestershire if that is any good?
