jsut owndeirng if any 17,18,19 year olds have a mark5 gti and how much there insurance was thanxs
-
hmmm i predict not many & sh!t loads!!
-
I'm guessing any 17-19 year olds in mk5 gti's wont care about the cost of insurance anyway - mummy and daddy will be paying
-
lol true, just wondering how much difference no claims make
-
no claims dont make a drip of difference.....its age age age....and age. i was 20 when i insured my '86 1.8 8v with no ncb/convictions/prior accidents and it was £600 tpft including 3rd party cover on other vehicles, thats from bell, ive found adrian flux just to be crap - each time ive called for a quote they've just told me no-one gets insured on anything more than a 1.6 if they are less than 25, not to mention it takes 20 minutes to get through to a sales person - god help you when you need to claim.

yeah age is a MAJOR factor and every year older you get the rates drop and as you say no convictions/prior accidents certainly make a big difference but i definately would not agree that no claims makes no difference. One years no claims is usually worth about a 35% discount and it is MUCH easier to get a deal for someone with bonus than without.

appriciate replies how old do you reckon before would be able to get get insured on a mark 5 gti for about £1500? cheers

Couldnt agree more. If your that ages and driving a MK5 GTI surley who gives a sh!t what the insurance is? Just phone up and get some quotes, see what they say. You might be hard pressed in finding companies that will cover you, but there will be a few out there that will. Go on www.moneysupermarket.com and compare a load of companies on there and see what the price is.
As said in the other thread, a 17 year old a 200bhp 2.0T Mk5 GTI will kill themselves and someone else in a few weeks.
-
its hard to find companies that will give quotes, but i think i will wait a year until 18 and have 1 no claims, because my brother drives a 2 litre turbo hes 21 with 1 no claims and cost £1800, so if i add my mam as name drive it should reduce it and get it for bout same hopefully.
-
If you go on that website and fill out your details etc im sure someone will give you a figure. Im interged as to what the cost would be lol.
I remeber when I was 18 filling out insurance quotes I filled one out for a Lotus Elise. Cheapest was £7995 fully comp for the year. They went as high as £11,000 for the year.
-
i typed it in on moneysupermarket no one give a quote ill try confused.com.
-
Is that you as main driver? I wont have a hope in hell of getting insured as main. Stick your mum as main driver and you was named and see what you get.
Martinb look away now ! ;)

I can beat that! £16,000 for a clio williams and I was 21!!!
-
WHAT !? Thats only got a 2.0L lump in it (from memory?) and isnt hugely expensive. Did it have gold plated wheels or something on it?
-
ive been on confused.com and it says were currently runnig slow and carnt give quotes, and moneysupermarket was the same anybody know any more websites? cheers
-
isnt there 1 called compare.com?
-

Ha ha dunno - all the other quote were quite reasonable (around £1400 + from memory - but I did have no no-claims) I think it was just their way of letting me down gently!!
Parker - I think moneysupermarket and confused are the main ones, if they're running slow I suggest trying again when they're likely to be less busy - also try direct line seperartly, for some reason they won't use any price comparison sites.
-
I just put "car insurance price comparison" into google and there's loads!
But careful though - because some add commision on to the price
-
i said i was 18 and i was named driver on my mams insurance swinton gave me a quote of just over £4000.
-
That on a MK5? Sounds about right!
GO FOR IT ! lol
-
lol if i had £4000 spare i would lol, i going wait till 18 and try phoning few places see if can get it down bit more.
-
£4600 on my own at endsleigh lol
-
What you going to get then?
-
just wait until i actually turn 18 think, then phone round because hardly any work on interent and see what best price is on my mams or something, i dont fancy paying 4 grand thats all lol
-

Martinb look away now ! ;)
But doesnt the main driver have to be reg keeper? thats what I found anyway.
-
Did you try bell parker2k6?

yes otherwise you'll get done for fronting - whereby the registered keeper and main person on the insurance is NOT the main driver or something like that.

be careful getting quotes on the internet as i found when i was looking that some companies perform credit checks on you after you've given them your details!! my credit rating took a hammering for 3-4 months and i didn't realise
-
Yes they do Teddy. The simple way around this is to get parents to purchase the car. Give them the money, so parents are reg keepers and then get the insurance with you as a named driver, and you drive around as if its your car.
I would not recommend this as its highly illegal, saves your a pretty penny non the less.
-
thanxs for replies no i havent tryed bell i will now, i put on some of them when i was doing it in my mams name with me as the named driver, i said that she wasent the reg keeper or the owner i think but just the main driver. but some wouldnt give quotes because someone else owned it.

Yeh that's what I mean. F*ck that it's my name I want on the V5
-
i tryed bell me as named driver and registered owner and my mam main driver, but they said we need more information so ill phone them next year lol
-
lol It will still be expensive next year. For me at 19 to be owner and main driver on a 1.8T MK4 was £3500 . . . . . .
This obviously varies depending on occupation, location, NCB but you get my drift.
-
yer i understand if it still to expensive ill just get a 1.4 golf or something lol.
-
Just to give you an idea for me at 26 years old with no ncb, third party on a Mk3 VR6 was £1200 with HIC
a bit high because I'd only held my licence for 18 months or so at the time, and a Mk5 GTI is (I think) a higher ins group anyway... so just being a year older isn't going to help you much!
Just put up with driving around in a 1.2 or something and enjoy paying less road tax
If I'd had a VR6 at 17, with the mentality I had then (and most people I know), I would have died for sure. :undecided: Might've managed to be slightly more dead in a Mk5 GTI....

Totally agree. It's not a good idea to start out on something so fast. Getting the experience first and then moving to something faster later on is the most sensible thing one can do. I drove around in a 1.3 car until I was 20 and glad I did too.
-
i agree im 22 with 2 year no claims and it would be only £870 a year fully comp on the 1.8t, shame i cannot afford one
the amount of years you have held your licence is just as important a sno claims i found this out with quotes and changing years passed my test
-
Best to get something more standard and get your no claims... that will open doors to many insurance places that wont ask you to bend over for a quote!! At 20 i had an XR3i which cost £600 to insure (that was 11 years ago tho) when all my mates were paying that for 1.1 fiestas due to being on daddys policies
-
looks like a 1.4 with the git kit on maybe , but this forum isnt a big fan of them are they lol.

Little engine, big car = Slooooow...
If you're talking about a brand new car I wouldn't bother... since you'll definitely want to get something with an engine in it later, you'll end up losing loads on the depreciation. Buy an older car for a couple of years - a Mk3 or something. Plus you're bound to get the odd ding and scrape while you're still inexperienced, and it doesn't matter so much if the car's already past its best.
Plus for what it would cost for new or nearly-new 1.4 Polo or something, you could probably buy a MK3 GTI and pay for insurance on it....
My 2p
-
im 21, got my golf mk5 gti when i was 20, mummy n daddy did not pay anything for it, hard worked payed for it, insurence was on daddys name though,
