What is everone's opinion on whether you would prefer to do an oil and filter change more frequently than that required by the Long Life service indicator? I know with my Audi (which is on long life servicing) I change the oil & filter every 7500 miles as do so many others.

It is when the service computer says you need it... but no later than 2years.  To find out when your next service is due, press and hold the 0:0 button on the right hand bottom corner of your dials and it will display the service due in XXX miles or xxx days... (make sure there are no warning messahes, e.g. fasten your seat belt as it wont work)

I personally wouldn't touch any car that had been on longlife - 2 years or 20K ? no thanks

Annual, regardless of mileage, every time. Call me old school, but ........

My car as it is, is not on the longlife service programme (my old Golf was) - The general thought seems to I made the right decision sticking to scheduled servicing - good to hear as I thought I'd made the wrong decision when I collected the car!!

My car was on longlife servicing - as it is now having a new engine fitted I will probably move to time and distance but keep using the longlife oil...

Something to do with a ticking noise and sounding like deisel if memory serves. Took the whole engine apart and couldnt fix it so throwing in a new engine.

Spot on   Mind you, was meant to be done by now... still no sign of my car yet though   Think I might just visit the dealer tomorrow and find out what the hell is happening to it!

LongLife servicing does have its' place.  It is OK for diesels which plod up and down motorways, sitting at 2,500 rpm.  However, LongLife is a definate no-no for any kind of high performance, high revving (read: over 3,000 rpm - which is now the official line) car.

Annual, regardless of mileage, every time. Call me old school, but ........

But you are old school !!!

Seriously, yes, I'm with you on this - 12 months or 10,000 miles maximum between scheduled services.

My E46 M3 was on 15,000 mile intervals or when the car flagged to be done.  That's pretty much long life on a much more stressed high reving motor than the Golf.  By the way it also had Castrol SLX.

If you are a big mile driver then I would also stick to the 10k service.  If you do 6K a year then surely you can benefit from extending the service interval a few months.

I'm scheduled onto longlife servicing. Mines just hit a year old, only done 5k miles.

The service indicator still says 600+ days or 15k miles, rang the stealers to check, they said not to worry as it will go up to max of 2yrs or 20k miles before a service!

The sensors in the oil will tell you when you DO need a service  :undecided:  ah well, means I can spend the extra pennies on mods instead
