Hiya there guys,
Im usually from the Mk3 forum as ive got a MK3 GTi. The thing is i wanna get rid of it and get a MK4. (dont tell them)
I not too sure which one im goin for but i would like a TDI as ive heard they are economical yet nippy.
Someone recomended the GT-TDI but i dont really know anything about them, has anyone got one, recomend it etc?
what do u guys think? which MK4 Golf should i go for bearing in mind im a student and cant get insurance for a V5 or anything like that.
Cheers.....

totally depends on your requirements.
insurance, both the petrol gti and diesel gt tdi are roughly the same.
spec, both again are similar regards interior, wheels and gadgets.
performance, the petrols are slightly quicker and faster than the diesels, but the smoke-blowers would beg to differ.
mpg, petrol about 30-35 & diesel 45-50ish
cost, for same year car diesels are about 10%higher

How much do you have to spend???? 11k will get you a GTTDI130 or if you go for the 150GTITDI then you'll be looking at closer to 14k for one. Personally the 150 rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty happy with my 1.8 20v non turbo. Got it 3 months ago for ?7500 from a vw dealer. Its a 99-S Reg and had 45000 on the clock when I got it.
Insurance isn't too bad - ?600-700 ish for fully comp (not sure of full year's premium- I renew in April) with 2yrs ncb and kept in a garage (I'm 23 & married - my wifey's insured on it for that too).
Hope this helps.

I got the PD-130,
All i can say is if you want a car that will play with and beat 206Gti's and the like and still return 53mpg, then the diesel is the one to go for.
If you then get a tuning box like mine, you can have even more fun.
Diesel is the way to go, be different to all your mates and piss them off when they try to race you and your dirty black juice guzzler pisses on their clea petrol car.
See other posts on TDi performance. ::) ::) ::)

Hiya guys
Tanx for the replies.
I think after driving my bros 2litre Alpha and my MK3 GTI for the past year the cost of pertol is killing me. i think that a diesel would deffinantly be on the menu.
Can anyone tell me the difference between a GT-TDI and a PDI and also what different BHPs i can get them in, also what kind of price i can expect for a decent secondhand one. which ones are sluggish?
Are there any other Golf diesels to consider? sdi etc?
i think im gonna have to go down to the VW dealership and get me a test drive......i like the sound of the 150BHP.
Cheers guys i think i will be converting to a oil burner.

DIESEL STATS
1.9 (110BHP);0-60 = 10.6; TOP END = 115
1.9PD (115bhp): 0-60 = 10; TOP END = 121
1.9PD (130BHP); 0-60 = 9.3; TOP END = 127
1.9PD (150BHP); 0-60 = 8.3; TOP END = 134
BUT DO NOT FORGET, PETROL
1.8 (125BHP); 0-60 = 9.6; TOP END = 125
1.8 (150BHP); 0-60 = 8.2; TOP END = 138
1.8 (180BHP); 0-60 = 7.6; TOP END = 138
all taken from parkers
horse for horse, petrols whoop arse. :o

THe SDi is definately worth a miss, 65Bhp N/a Diesel, 0-60 of 17.3secs, so i think best left alone.
Next up is the 100Bhp PD Turbo diesel. 0-60 in 11.3secs and quite punchy.
Next up and not available since 2002, is the 115BHp PD 0-60 is around 10 secs and again punchy.
Next up is the 130 Gt TDi, 0-60 is 8.5secs and top end of 127,
Then finally the 150 PD 0-60 is 7.9 and top end of 134.
The 150 is the best on paper, but considering its gonna cost you 3grand more than a 130, then i would go for the 130. Plus you can chip it to just over 165 for 500 quid.
?12000 will get you a reasonable 130PD but i would spend a little more to get a very low milge as late as possible model.
The choice is yours.

sorry ant, I disagree. the 0-60 figures you quoted are incorrect.
Just checked on VW website and the figures they state are closer to mine as they quote 0-62.
-
sorry mate there not, the sdi, 100, 115 were tken from the sales brochures i have,
The 130 is from the autocar actuall test, ans the 150 is also from autocar.
these are genuine figures tested with timing gear.
We've had this before, ask simon, he knows what i am on about. :P

I'll just put my two cents in. Diesel Car magazine took a factory standard PD 150 and clocked 0-60 in 7.3 secs, check out http://www.dieselcar.com/a2ztest6.html for it's road test against a type-r, there's also a test for the PD 130 as well.
Anyone who has a PD 150 will tell you that the official 8.6 secs figure is nonsense!

I echo what Nimrod has to say. Acceleration is even more spectacular when its been Revo'd!

Damn you Terminator, I would love to try a Revo'd PD150!! :'(

Hiya guys,
slightly off the topic , but bear with me.
I put my MK3 golf in the freeads last week and have had a company (Car Data i think) ring me saying that they could get rid of the car for me for close to 4 grand. The only catch is that i have to pay them ?80, ?60 of which i will get back once the car is sold.
They say they could sell the car within a week as they finance the buyers.
What i wanna know is does anyone know of this company? or sold there car through them?
I must admit i am tempted but not sure if i will get scanked or not.
cheers

If you want to give away money, I'll have it!
Honestly, those things are a load of sh*t, don't waste your money.
Spend ?20 getting it in your local autotrader (as well as on the web) and it will sell. Don't be tempted by any third party offering to sell your car or refer buyers as you will never sell your car through that channel.
-
to right, if it's a decent price and well lokked after you will sell it in the auto trader in 2 weeks, could cost bout ?40 quid depending on your area, but ignore these poeple! 8)

LOL! Nimrod, if you are ever down my way, let me know and I will take you out for a spin, providing you are not of a nervous disposition! Believe me you will want Revo after that.
