Title: New member - testdrove a Mk4 GTi today and have a few Q's
Post by: dwm on 12 August 2007, 16:46
Hello,

I test drove a Mark4 Golf GTi today and was quite underwhelmed.

It was the 2.0 version, which I know isn't the one to get, but it was at a local garage so I thought it was worth a look.

Anyway, I thought the handling was terrible, and I want to know if the other "sports" models share the same suspension - namely the 1.8T GTi and V5.

Hopefully the 1.8T handles better? Or is everything the same apart from the engine? It just wasn't very "GTi" to me.

Thanks in advance.

PS - I'm only interested in standard cars, so no need to recommend re-maps and Bilsteins, etc.

the 2.0 mk4 is the least "gti" of all golf gti's.

I don't think even the best mk4 gti was renowned for great handling.

Thanks, but any idea if the chassis varied between the varients?

If the 2.0 is considered the worst then maybe there is more than just an engine change between that and the 1.8T?

Slighty off topic but will the "sporty" A3 models/S3 have a similar set up?

Thanks

i'd assume, in fact i'm pretty certain there would have been chassis and brake upgrades. i hope so anyway!

best place to ask is the mk4 section.

I think audi do their own thing with chassis tuning and are known for being a bit less forgiving in the comfort dept.

IMHO the A3 is a better looking car anyway.

the 1.8 t has lower suspention and sports i think im pretty sure it does, avoid 2.0 unless it a family runabout ur after, I think the a3 handles better, its known to aswell from reviews ive read, but ride is firmer but still smooth just picks out more bumps
