I've had my Mk2 GTI (J reg) for 5 weeks now after a guy PX'd it for my Subaru Impreza WRX. With the deal done, I jumped into the GTI for a blat and must admit I was very disappointed, theres no power, the trim is basic and it just don't handle as well as a Subaru.
HOWEVER, after a few days, the GTI has redemeemed itself, firstly, getting 37miles per gallon is a real plus, the Scoob would only get 17MPG if I was lucky! Also the shape of the GTI is really growing on me and after 4 hours of polishing, must admit, it looks great (It's Tornado Red)
It was pretty lumpy and had a slight misfire when I put my foot down, but I serviced it and it's much improved.
Also, I really missed not having a sunroof in the scoob, yet another bonus!
The GTI has done 130,000 miles but it still runs sweetly and is completely standard apart from a MP3 player and a new alarm.
A few friends say I should modify it and take it Scooby bashing, but I'm undecided on this at the moment.
The car is growing on me more and more, to the extent that I don't miss the scoob at all!

what valve is it, if its the 8v, sure it is more dissapointing compared to scooby, the 16v loves revs
