Hi all,
I know this is a pretty noddy question, but I've been wondering for some time about it....
I understand the obvious benefits of chipping your engine, but what are the disadvantages? Does it seriously degrade engine life / add extra wear to your clutch etc...
Also, what kind of % increase would it add to your insurance?
Cheers
Rich

the power increase on chipping our model of golf richy aint enough to warrent any extra engine/clutch wear, they are 125bhp standard, with a expensive air intake system and a stainless exhaust system (miltek etc) with a high flow cat and a chip/remap you would be getting near to 150bhp if all properly set up, a geezer on uk mk4 site (fran) is a 20v non turb owner whos done all this stuff and had good results. ;D

ya dont get much BHP increase by chipping a normally aspirated engine.

Depends on what engine, usually about 10% on a normally aspirated car.
