Im gonna do the shells on my valver in the hope I have caught the knocking early enough...
What bits do I need?
Ive been quoted this from VW at a discount price (Know someone there)
Shells £16.64 + Vat (full set)
Sump Gasket £15.77 + Vat
Sump bolts around £7
Oil Pump £91 + Vat
Big end bolts around £45
Do I need all this? DO those prices seem ok?

The head bolts and gasket set you DEFINATELY need. Its always a good idea to change the oil pump but I think you will find it cheaper from GSF. Sump bolts you don't really need unless you have lost a couple. It may be a good idea to replace the big end bolts too, but not essential. More for peace of mind than anything else.
I bought my big end bolts for about 10 Euros (more or less) (I live in Spain) so £45 seems a bit much. Again, look at GSF for all the items you need. You don't need to spend that much.

i got the oil pump from gsf, was 40quid, and if i were you id use a windage tray from a mk3 diesel instead of the sump gasket, which was 25quid from gsf.

what does the windage tray do and will it fit a mk3 2.0 bottom end
