Title: Motorprovider Week 30 build slots
Post by: John007 on 03 August 2007, 13:58
I was wondering if anybody who has a car on order from Motorprovider who was told that it would be built in week 30 has followed it up with VW.

I called Motorprovider on Tuesday to see if they had heard any thing, I was informed that they know nothing and do not have reason to think that there will be anymore delays.

Hiya

Last time I chatted to them i was 15th in the list, the first 5 had been delivered to the dealers and mine was thought to be in transit between the factory and the dealer.

Anyone else heard anything?

Hi Guys,

Well i've not heared a thing from Motorprovider since the letter explaining the delay, and to be honest i've been away at sea working and not had a chance to call them.  i do recall them saying they will contact me 2 weeks before I can collect the car so i was not expecting them to call me for another week or so.    I just hope they don't start messing me around over the next few weeks cos my pacients will start running thin...

That sounds promising,

I will call them again next week to see if they know anything new.

I was never told where I was on the pecking order, knowing my luck it will be around the 100's

Contacted Motorprovider this morning.

They have informed me that my car has been built   (At Last).

They will contact me upon shipping, still sheduled for early September, which by my calculations is only 3 weeks away.

I will be counting the minutes.

Same message for me confirmed today.

I think I'm at the front of the queue (ordered 1st Feb) but they told me no cars had arrived in the UK yet.

Early September sounds a bit vague to me but I've been promised a call as soon as it's shipped out of the dutch dealer.

Fingers crossed

Hiya

Spoke to MP this morning, car has now been definately built and its due to be delivered to dealer in Holland for PDI, delivery looking like 2nd week in September.

Have a dilema concerning a cherish number transfer, mot expires the 29th, don't want to renew, MP suggested putting the number on retention, rang the DVLA they said as long at the vehicle was not been used on the road and delivery/collection was to my home address, then an expired certificate was fine.

Anyone else have any experience of doing this?

Thanks

 Thanks for the update,

2nd week in September  , the wait is killing me.

I put my plate on retention when I sold the car back in June, Cost £80 but this did include the transfer fee.

Make sure you insist on an English manual before paying (otherwise you will get the Holland one).

Call me cynical but I can't help but think that MP would be better off if the cars arrived after the Sep 1st rush. I can't imagine that they've got enough space here to move all these cars  - I'll put this to them tomorrow as it's now week 34, 4 weeks after build week and no confirmation of any PDI's being carried out.

All,

I think the one point that keeps me going is that they have got to be in the business of shift cars for a living.

They IMO would not knowingly enter into an agreement which they could not fulfill.

And to top it all you can't buy an GTI any cheaper than what they are offering which is delivered to your personal spec.

Surely it would be built already if it was to be here by then, or very close at least.

Hi there folks,

Been following this post with interest.  Emailed motorprovider yesterday and was told that they haven't even built mine yet!  So much for the week 30 build slot!  They are now predicting mine to be delivered 4th week of Sept.

Not a happy bunny!

That wouldnt happen mate, theyd be desperate to deliver once its built! I would hazard a guess its not built. Feel bad for you, Motor Provider seem to be messing people about big time.

A quick summary of my communications with them today - (PS I Ordered 1st February)

My car has not been delivered to the dealers and is still in transit from factory to dealer 4 weeks after build week - (it must be moving by barge)

They think  it will arrive at the dealers in approx 7-12 days but are not able to confirm.

They are too busy and either do not have enough resource,or effective communications channels and processes to find out - my words put to them in an email that they wrote "correct" against and returned to me!

They have 700 cars to ship and are very busy - I should expect delivery in the 2nd week of September.

Shocking service!
Confidence at an all time low - I can't believe £20k assets move through a supply chain in such an uncontrolled manner and given Chris96's comments start to make me think...... been here before.

Something really does sound dodgey, You would think that they would want to get the cars here as quickly as possible so that they can make there money.

Is it VW or is it Motorprovider that is the question,

Why is everybody getting different stories?

Title: Re: Motorprovider Week 30 build slots
Post by: Matt22 on 23 August 2007, 16:17
Hi,

Am brand-spanking-new to this forum...  have been tracking several threads here for the last month as I wait for my new GTi to be delivered. I ordered through MotorProvider near the beginning of June and they quoted a 16 week delivery time (a long time, but I can deal with it if I can save a few grand).... anyway, I've mailed them a couple of times since I ordered (last time was last week), and they are still claiming that all is on track and my delivery date stands (build date around week 37-38)....

So, by the sounds of you guys on this post, I should not be surprised to get a letter in the post soon to announce a delay?? ... or have VW just had a manufacturing nightmare for Gti's around week30 only.

I certainly won't be impressed  , if I keep being told everything is all 'on track' only to be told at the last minute that I might have to wait another x weeks.

So... if I'm being told everything is OK now (i.e. 5 weeks before delivery)... can I expect them to deliver  on this quote?? .... or do I have to keep my fingers crossed??

Cheers.

I would cross everything that you can,

The week 30 cars were originally meant to be built in week 26,

We were assured that everything was on track until a week before the build date arrived.

I hope for your sake that everything is on track as many of us are now getting p****** off with the wait and lack of communication from MP.

Cheers John... not really the reponse I was wanting to hear... but I'm not entirely surprised.
Especially when you see the expected wait on the MotorProvider website change from 14-16 weeks... to 14-20 weeks.

Hello,

I have been following the forum for a few months now and the MP related news but not posted on this thread. So hello!

Well, again a complete lack of proactive customer communication from MP with regard to my GTI but after a few emails I found out that my GTI (Ordered the end of Feb) will be arriving end of this friday of start of next week!! Then following 4 days of registration and prep it should be ready to pick up by next friday!!

If it happens then I will be well happy!!! But with all the rest of the horror stories I'm not so sure. Confidence not very high with MP just now.

Fingers crossed!

hlobban,

please keep us up to speed. Did you get the week 30 build letter?

I ordered mine 1st Feb but I've had no (positive) news see my posts above

one of three things has happened:

They have no control over the delivery sequence (almost cetain)
They have forgotton my order (unthinkable)
I might get a call tomorrow (dream on)

Sent an email to MP just checking on the status of my GTI and when I could pick it up they said not to book any tickets yet and that:

"Your car is in transit and not likely to be with us until next week after bank holiday."

"We will contact you once here and checked off"

So keeping everything crossed for that before I book my train tickets to sheffield to pick it up.

Decided to give MP a call yesterday to see exactly what was going on.  It turns out that I am one of a lucky four people that did not get their car built in the allocated week 30 build slot.  When asked for a reason they could not give me one!  I tried to get the komn number from them to contact VW direct, but they wouldn't hand it over.  So to be honest, I've still got no confidence that my car will arrive the end of Sept.  They did offer me a full refund, which I'm thinking of taking, but after waiting 5+ months, its hard to do.

Hello Harry

Welcome to the forum,

It sound as if you have been more fortunate than most on here by getting some good news.
as Acwats said please keep us updated.

I feel for Chris who's order has been missed,

I never thought buying a new car could be so problematic.

You never know we might get them this side of Christmas.

I will let you know when I get the car,

At the end of the day with MP you are saving thousands.

I guess that we are unfortunate with delays, earlier customers have had a pleasent transaction with cars delivered on time.

chris96 - what can I say - sorry to hear your news - what makes it worse is the refusal to issue a KOMNR, who did you speak to?
Do you know how to check with VW as I would like to try mine but can't find the right contact.

It 's a hard choice to make whether to pull out, it might be worth wiating a week to see if we get any any cars at all.

After another semi snotty email, they informed me that the car should be there next week and ready the following, they will let me know when it arrives in Chesterfield.

I am sure that they said I would be informed when the car was PDI'd in Holland and notified again when in transit.

So now it is You will be notified when they get the car.

My fingers are crossed although I still have my doubts that I will see the car in the next couple of weeks.

Hi Guys,

MP originally told me they would send me a letter 2 weeks before I could pick up my car, so when 3 weeks ago they told me it'd be here 2nd week in September I was expecting the letter about now....surprise surprise no letter.

When I contacted them today first they said.....no no we'll phone you to say when you can pick it up, also to get an upto date idea when it will be here go to our web site and use the ' Order Progress' facility which I did and 'low & behold' I'm now told its gonna be 3rd week in september !!

Last time I posted on here I was told by MP that I would be able to pick up my car by Friday the 31st Aug at the latest.

Imagine my surprise when on thursday afternoon I got an email to call them.

The bad news: It woun't be ready to be picked up on friday - in fact it hadn't even arrived!

The Good news: It is definately (as definate as MP gets) arriving on monday and they have the registration number for me to get an insurance quote over the weekend to start on Wednesday when I can pick it up!

So fingers crossed I will have it next wednesday and the wait will have been worth it!

I will keep you all informed of the progress!!

Regards

Harry

P.S. Anyone got a good company for insurers? Thinking of going with Direct Line?

Thats good news,

Hopefully all the cars will roll in the next few days and we will be a smiley bunch of GTI owners,

Direct line quoted me £606, Bell on the other hand were the cheapest I could find at £400.

Give them a Bell they are an Admiral company so the service is good.

I hadnt had these sorts of issues when buying from MP - I think it's more an issue with the beurocrats at VW rather than MP themselves. At the end of the day you are saving thousands off the lists and believe you me it is worth the wait :) JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR ENGLISH HANDBOOK BEFORE YOU HAND YOUR MONIES OVER

I managed to get my insurance down to £360 with RAC insurance and £50 cash back(because I had road cover) = £310. Age 37, no accidents, no convictions and 10 years+ no claims.

Good idea to use 'Confused.com or 'Moneysupermarket.com' had some excellent quotes on there also 'Swiftcover' do good quotes.

With regards to insurance, do you have to tell the insurance company that the car is an import?
Title: Re: Motorprovider Week 30 build slots
Post by: John007 on 06 September 2007, 08:45
Its a parallel import, these are full Uk spec cars built to the same spec as what you would buy if you walked into your local Vw dealer, only difference is you save a fortune and only get a 2 Year warranty.
Title: Re: Motorprovider Week 30 build slots
Post by: orca on 06 September 2007, 14:18
Thanks for the reply.  The reason I asked is that I have ordered a GTI from Cars4Charities and have just started thinking about getting quotes for the car.  I'm not sure what information I need to give to the insurance companies.

The car is to be built week 39 so should hopefully be here by mid to end of October.  I am trying not to get too excited about it as there seems to be delays with all these companies.

Got a call from MP this morning and my GTI was taxed and ready to go so I managed to get a plane, two trains and two taxis to pick it up! Got there at 1730 as they were about to go home for the day. Handover was smooth. They even had an English Manual for me although it was missing dustcaps from all four wheels though?!? I got them to soon sort that out though. It drives like a dream and I enjoyed my 6 hour journey from Sheffield back up to Aberdeen!

Thank god the wait is over! But it was worth it. Hopefully will post some pics soon.

P.S. It came with cruise control (which wasn't ordered but I'm guessing since thats standard on the continent VW just couldn't be bothered to take it out - oh well its nice to get something for free!)
Title: Re: Motorprovider Week 30 build slots
Post by: hlobban on 09 September 2007, 02:16
Additional to my last:

It only had 15 miles of fuel in it and 7 miles on the clock already so that was a bit cheeky and it was a while before I realised that it didn't have any windscreen washing fluid. So I wonder what else similar to that it doesn't have? It performed brilliantly the 400 miles back up to Aberdeen anyway.

It was nicely washed on the outside but some of the windows could have been cleaned better on the inside - fingerprints etc.

But I have it now and the wait is finally over! If I find anything else out over the next few days I will let you know.

She is getting a wash tomorrow as the 400 miles have covered her in bugs - damn summer!

Cheers,

She is running like a dream - done about 450 miles already.

A little bird told me somewhere that you should book it in for full oil change after about a thousand miles...something to do with metal deposits being in the oil from build?

Anyone any thoughts on this? Would it be as well to book an initial UK service at the same time to make sure everything is as it should be?

Any help on this would be most welcome.

Very happy apart from one small thing no road tax, it hadnt come through but as I had booked tickets to collect the car they let me drive it away and they will forward the tax as soon as it arrives.

There were 4 more GTI's sitting there 2 blue a black and a white.

It had 5 miles on the clock and a whopping 10 miles left on the range.

I will post some pics tomorrow after I have given it the special treatment.

It must be an ancient, old skool little bird who told you that - unless yours came without an oil filter!

Anyone any thoughts on this? Would it be as well to book an initial UK service at the same time to make sure everything is as it should be?

No "initial" service is required, but contact VWUK ASAP to get your car registered on their system, so that you can be notified of any official updates, register your warranty, and get your 12 months VW Assist.

Oh, and make sure it is NOT on LongLife servicing.

and get your 12 months VW Assist

This one caught me out.  VW have had a policy change with VW Assist on imports (see below).  It took me three months of driving around with limited cover, wondering where my VW Assist card was,  before I realised.  So I ended up paying £145 for two years VW Assist cover including Europe, full onward travel etc.  Fairly competitive and easily offset against the money I saved off the list price of course.....

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/company/faq#newcar
"Personal imports originating from Western Europe will generally be covered by a service called "Mobility Guarantee" from the country which supplied the car. Mobility Guarantee is limited in terms of the cover and duration it provides (12 months) and details can be found in the vehicle information wallet. Generally this service covers failure due to mechanical or electrical failure of the vehicle and does not provide help for such things as punctures, accident recovery, out of, or wrong fuel or lost keys. We therefore strongly recommend that you purchase our comprehensive Volkswagen assistance cover. For more information, please contact 0500 275 577."

Hi all

Wondered if one of the blue ones was mine, but last contact with MP said it would not be delivered by VW until end Sept.  Car was ordered beginning of June.

Could hardly believe it this afternoon when MP contacted me to say car would be ready Saturday.

So after being GTi-less since May, will soon be back in fold -collecting car mid-week.

Anyone want a Mk 3 1.4 Astra !!!

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/company/faq#newcar

VW had the same info on their website when I got mine (Dec 06 - from MP).  I sent off my reg doc and data sticker to VW customer services and got 12 months VW assist.  Certainly worth a try, rather than having to pay for it.

Cheers for the advice on the servicing - Will get in touch with VW UK ASAP and register the car.

When did you guys get your registration document from MP for the car - as I obviously will need this to register it and try to get the VW assist?

Is there anything else I will need?

Cheers again

Harry

I can't personally speak for MP procedures, but on all the new cars I've ever purchased, you normally get an A4 plain white temporary registration document on the day you collect your car from the stealers.  It can be anything upto 6 weeks before you get the pukka V5C from the DVLA, although generally, they are usually on the ball, and send them out within about two weeks.

Is there anything else I will need?

A full tank of Tesco 99 or Shell V-Power!  :smug:

I thought they stopped making GIT's in blue? If that's the case I wonder why MP had them in

Think laser blue isn't available, but shadow blue metallic is - bit darker, but hopefully a bit easier to look after than black

ccaasif  I've also been told another 2 weeks(ordered 23 March), apparently MP now have 2 suppliers and all the GTI's that were ordered in Feb & March are coming from the original supplier who is the one running late with orders.  The new second supplier is on time thats why some people are getting theirs on time and even early in some cases.

we are just unfortunate that we're in the batch running late but I'm told they are starting to come in and hopefully should be here in the next 2 weeks !!

I wish I had shares in Van Mossel , that's who Simpledeal get their GTI's from. They must be making a fortune.

From MP - I've never made contact with van mossel  - too many garages and not sure which one's got my car.
Not sure how "ready to collect" turns into a date for me to collect but  sounds more positive than the usual apology

Well you've got more info that I .  Spoke and e-mailed  MP on Fri and thought I'd try the... '' he who shouts loudest'' tactic but unfortunetly they came back with '' we can always refund your deposit Sir '' line.   They know cancelling and re-ordering is not an option due to the wait and you cant get it any cheaper elsewhere so I'll have to resign myself to waiting for there call.  Its just bloody frustrating !!!!

Saying that all this waiting has confirmed to me that reflex silver with 18''monza's and leather is the dogs bo##oks and WILL look sensational !! .....(when it arrives).

I was told 2 weeks ago that my car was going to be build week 39, so decided that enough was enough and cancelled my order.  I decided that I'd rather give someone else my business.  So I went and found myself a UK car, 8 weeks old, less than 400 miles on the clock and a higher spec than I had on order for a £1k more than MP price.  Very happy with my purchase and very happy to not have to deal with Motorprovider again.

Best of luck to anyone still waiting....

Really sorry to hear about your nightmare acwats.... if you ordered in February and it STILL hasn't arrived.. sounds like someone, somewhere f***ed-up big time. I wouldn't be surprised if your order somehow got put to the bottom of the pile.
I ordered mine in early June and was told it would take 16 weeks (which works out to be this week)... and have just been told that it is in transit to UK now, so should have it in 1-2 weeks.

How can a car ordered in June arrive earlier than one ordered in Feb??? ...mine's a basic GTi with a few goodies on it.. if you ordered DSG, maybe there's a shortage of the DSG gearboxes, and they are giving priority to dealers??
Either way.. good luck.

Thanks Matt22,

I'm not sure I'll ever understand what has really happened but as I understand it....

It all goes back to the issue where VW refused to produce RHD cares for the dutch dealer.
Right through June my car was weeks away, then the letter to everybody explaining that it had taken the threat of legal action to get VW to build the cars. This was the worst bit and I think MP were taken by suprise. I assume

This reset all the orders and we were given a build time of Week 30 (hence the title of this thread). There was no priority given to those who ordered early it seems!

I struggle to believe that my car was built that week but MP tell me it was (so not a DSG issue). They seem to have no control over the dealer responsible for PDI and there is a comment on this thread about an alternative dealer being used which I have not heard before.

I hope my car was lifted out of Holland today but I haven't had a call....

Now I've got my car I thought it would be useful to try to post details of my experiences so that anybody wanting to go this route can make an informed choice and try to talk to Motor Provider to avoid the bad bits:

I ordered my car on 1st February (week 6) against an estimated delivery time of 12-14 weeks
I was led to believe that it would be delivered in June by using MP's progress email facility on a regular basis.
Then I, amongst many others was informed that no cars had been built and that we could wait until the cars would be built week 30 and available for September or have our £1,000 deposit back. This situation appeared to surprise MP and it highlighted some of the risks of taking this route.

My car was only delivered to the UK last week and collected week 41.

Communication with MP has proved difficult as they have had little control over the supply chain, in particular the Dutch dealer responsible for PDI. This situation has no doubt been impacted by the back log of cars, but seems to stem from the fact that they release limited quantities presumably against a credit limit.

In summary, whilst the communication has been difficult I did get the impression that MP were behaving as honorably as possible given situation. I’m not sure that the one word/one liner email correspondence via the website is acceptable but I did choose to go this route rather than the main dealer. My confidence was boosted when I was quoted a chassis no. the first week in September, and other customers reported getting their cars throughout September.

MP obviously read these sort of sites and I did at some stages find it difficult not to write my true feelings but I did not want to risk antagonizing a difficult situation – I have always maintained that any feedback I have provided is as factual and as objective as possible.

In summary I paid £21,050 for the following:

5 Door, DSG, Metallic, Leather, Armrest, Parking Sensors, Rear Airbags, Highline, and when the car was delivered it also had Cruise fitted. This includes 6 month tax and 5 miles of fuel! – although my screenwash was full unlike 2 others on this thread. The car has all the UK bits including the bottle opener, mats, leather holders for manuals, but only has 2 year VW warranty.

MP provided 7 days free insurance through Norwich Union who then quoted me £326  Fully Comp Protected 5 yr NCB - great deal and a good service

I would have had to pay £25,400 before any discount at a stealers (12 months tax) so I’ve got plenty left to cover the 3rd year warranty if I want it. I’ll take my chance when it comes to selling, in 5 years time I don’t think it’ll really matter that the PDI stamp is at a Dutch dealer.

It’s all behind me now and the car is great.
You pay your money you take your chance – I was never in a great rush for my car so I’m happy with the deal.
I'm looking forward to getting the first 1k miles under the belt

SEACAP – hang on in there…..
ccaasjf - make sure you get an aerial - they borrowed one to go no mine from another, I hope it wasn't yours :embarassed:

Nice one acwats, I've also gone for the silver but a 3 door with 18'' monza's and leather. Good summary of what you and most of us have experienced. I'm hoping I'll be able to collect the weekend after next !! (HOPEFULLY)  How did it go when you picked it up ? was it nice as smooth and did they say anything about the delays ?

SEACAP

Handover was very smooth, no problems, make sure you get your aerial as they take them off for shipping! Hopefully you'll get Cruise Control too

As I mentioned the insurance was a good option - I haven't got my tax disc yet but I'm away this week so it will be posted.

I didn't get into the subject of delays, it's all been said, and I didn't want to spoil my day.

Having reviewed things a bit more I didn't get a radio manual in english so I'll give them a call, the car has rear map/reading lights which I don't think are standard for UK??. Also there is no date on the PDI stamp so I've got to work out what to put down

I've got a full compliment of Dutch handbooks and a spare GTI leather holder if anybody wants to make me an offer....
