Title: Audi ACE engine into mk2 16v...which clutch/gearbox?
Post by: mutant on 03 August 2007, 13:00
I've got an Audi ACE 2.0 16v engine to drop into a mk2 16v, still going to be using k-jet.  I have an ACD gearbox kicking about (close ratio 8v box if im not mistaken?)  will this gearbox fit onto the audi block, also what clutch should i use, an Audi one or my 16v clutch from the golf?

Thanks for any help!

Got 2 16v's, ones a daily driver, the other is one that i was given, came with a short ratio 8v box and the box fitted to the car has longer ratios so i was told.  The only 16v gearbox is on my daily, and i cant take it off or else my ride to work and back is off the road.  The 8v one will still go on won't it?

You match the clutch to the box in any situation as far as i'm aware.

the 8v box will have the same ratios as the 16v box apart from 5th which is taller and gives more relaxed motorway driving.  You match the clutch to the gearbox as Mew said, and reuse your old flywheel as I doubt the Audi one would work.
