Hi, feel stupid asking this question but am a little unsure about Golf engines, when the weather is wet (which has been nearly everyday this summer), my engine squeals every now and again, but doesn't when its dry, I was just wondering if this is due to an old fan belt (if golfs have them) or something else
any help is appreciated
Thanks Danny

Could be fan belt or PAS belt if you have it.

Itl be the pas belt. May need tensioning but for the price id just replace it, easy job. It gets loads of spray when when causing it to slip and squeel.

Almost definately a drive belt. When it happens again, to identify, let the engine idle and load up the electrics on the car by switching on lights, rear demist etc and see what happens. Then with no load on the engine, if fitted with PAS, turn the wheels to full lock, and then some. This loads up the pump. If your belt is loose or worn it will squeal.
