small bumper only and people call it various things. front valence is the most popular one and is held on by various 10mm bolts.
-
yeah, getting it off was a piece of p!ss.
I just wondered as theres a red big bumper 16v being broken near me. they're not an expensive panel but it'd have been less of a pain if i didin't have to paint it. oh well.
I assume genuine big bumper models had a tie bar then?
-
I have a dent on both panels right and left of the centre valance, are they bolted to the centre or are they part of the side wings?Going to get them panel bet and sprayed I hope.
-
theres one near here in v good nicker.. but.. its bristol :undecided:
-
helios- the bottom side aprts are part of the wing.
mattneck - a bit far
-
Feck anyway looks like I will be getting both panels sprayed so,might hide the spray line under the bumber ,will have to look into it.
-
Impressive dent! I'd call that a front valance myself
-
hey just looking through and i have a small bumper model golf and im putting big bumpers on soon, will i have to take off the front valance , and if i do, will it weaken the structure of my golf and will i need to replace it with nething?
-
Impressive dent!
pretty much fixed it with a rubber mallet and a sandbag.
-
From bad to worse.Checked where the two dents are on the bottom part of the side panels and the panels are completly rotten as well as the small grill that goes in the centre valance cracked in several places.I presume I will need two new panels before the rot away completely or can the panels be cut and new bottoms welded on?I take it they are a ridiculous price.
-
i doubt they'll be that much, full wings are pretty cheap.
-
It is neccessary to buy original VW ones or will GSF or copies do?
-
not sure really. best thing to do is phone a body panel supply place and see if you can just replace the rotten bits.
also look in phil 88's dub projects as he's doing loads of body stuff. he might have more of an idea what you can get.
-
I've got a dent there to mate !!! Must be a common thing
-
Poor driving me thinks ;) . .
-
if you're fitting big bumpers dont worry, the big bumper models dont have that valance or the plstic grill, its not structural in any way :)
-
Just wondering is it hard to get the small grill piece that sits in the centre valance? Not the front grill but if you look at a small bumper model like the one in the pic at start of thread it just below the reg plate.
-
not really since all small bumpered MK2s got em, quite a few of those were made ;)
-
don't go to euro car parts for it tho'. he told me i got the last one in the central warehouse.
he might have just been lying cos it took 3 attempts and two weeks to get.

191 853 677 G 01C - ventilation grille for 675mm radiator - 22.73+VAT
-
is that for a genuine on cos mine was £8 odd.?
-
will be genuine as its a VAG part number... and its hellishly expensive...
-
Part number and all thank you.
-
quick question i know lord rubjonny said its not neccessary when big bumpering - how not neccessary is it? i've got big bumpers and sitll have it fitted as it seems to support the lower parts of the wings....is it still safe to remove it? the wings seem a big flappier without it, but less weight is better.
-
put it this way, VW didnt fit it to big bumper cars ;)
-
sweetness, one less piece of parp on my car.
