Post by: dabill on 01 August 2007, 18:57
after work, had to bump the car for some reason, although i think it might have been my new(ish) starter sticking... have to take that off and look at w/e

popped bonnet and the p*ss*ng spring in the release mechanism broke!

can you buy these springs seperate or do i have to buy the whole release mechanism?

finding a mk2 golf in a scrappy round here is like trying to find a needle in a haystack...

i've phoned the local dealership and got the lower mech on order for 12 quid exc VAT.. bout 15quid ish, so at least i know its new and hopefully wont break for another 16 years...

Had to replace mine a few months ago, what a pain

I bought a new one from the dealers, reckoned the same as you, £15 was worth it for something that should last another 15 years!

It looks a lot smarter than the old one anyway

I replaced mine with one of those springs that holds various size allen keys onto a keyring, it has to be bent into shape but it works a treat. Easy to get too as well, just remove the grill and bobs yer unkle
