Title: Ignition Switch
Post by: perryqhill on 01 August 2007, 15:02
It's come to my attention (after loads of looking) that my Ignition Switch on my Mk 2 88 16v Golf is probabyl shagged. Does anyone know where you can get replacements (apart from VW) and are they hard to change?

The usual place for spares is German Swedish www.gsfcarparts.com

However, their electrical stuff doesn't have the best reputation. I'd probably be tempted to go to VW with this one.

As for changing it, do a search. There's loads of threads on this.

Changing the ignition switch can be fun. You need LOTS of patience and a very good read of the Haynes first.
Locks will come as a car set and include the door ones too. Doors locks very easy to change. The boot can be a little more interesting but not too bad.
I bought a replacement car set from V.W and also paid for it. I havn't heard anything bad about GSF locks, except that they are about half the price.
If anyone else has heard bad things, say so now or forever hold your peace. (or piece, but not too tightly)

could just de-lock handles and boot then you only have to worry about the ignition... find a car thats being broke with the keys still and bobs your uncle...
