Title: MK 3 speaker wire snapped help needed on this one ASAP
Post by: kells on 31 July 2007, 19:24
hello

my rear speakers on the drivers side are not working, iv took a look and one of the wires has snapped, i cant just re join it as its snapped right in the connector so basically iv had to remove the inner trim of the pillar to reveal the other side of the connector, i was thinking on drilling a hole to feed the wire through so i can re join the two together, the problem is im unsure which to join it to as non match the colour on the other side of the connector

the wire which has snapped in the door side is a blue and green one

does anyone have any idea which wire this needs to be connected to on the other side of the connector (inside the car)

thanx

yeah, this is a common problem. I would just see which pin it goes into and match it on the one on the other end, but I suppose you thought of that and cant see the other end of the connector! thats the only suggestion I can think of though.

Ive amped my front speakers and had similar issues but in the front so I could see a bit easier!

yeah iv tried to do this (look for the pin) but cant tell at all, even had a look at the other side, someone has repaired that at some point in the cars life too, but it didnt help me

with some luck the wires going into the HU loom may be the same colour as the ones you cant figure out which is which ( or have you looked?) basically take the HU out and see if any of the wires are the same colour as the ones coming from the speaker end. ( if a HU  adaptor is used you will have to look before this adaptor at the actual VW loom)

although apparantly it is possible to get the connector you cant see out from where it is seated. ( or is that the other end?!)

wait a minute... http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=61783.10

it was you that was having the problems before!! havnt you sorted it yet?!

the only other option you have, and proabably your best option is do the drilling through the connector like we discussed before and run a brand new wire all the way to the HU, that is if you can run the wire properly as I can imagine this causing some difficulty ( more trim removal! ), but it would be the best fix, in an ideal ( non car!) world

Hiya matey

i have actually just sorted it today hehe

i got the drill out, drilled a hole, after eventually figuring out which wire i needed to connect to. it was a brown wire haha, bloody germans, god knows why the colours dont match up?

then it still didnt work, turned out the pins one on the connecter were not pointing through the connector on the car side propperly, basically the whole plastic connector thing was seated wrong, took me a hour all in to sort it and get all the interior panels back in, i also soldered all the wires for safe measure

all working as it should now..

will up grade speakers next as the alpine head is too much for the standards...Focal here we come :)
