Title: Alloy dilemma!
Post by: duzza on 29 July 2007, 15:06
I bought my ed30 from a main dealer as an ex demo car. The dealership were running it on 18" R32 alloys (zolders) so obviously I got them to chuck them in as part of the deal.  I'm now wondering wether I really like them  and wether to keep them or maybe go back to the original Pescaras?? (id make some cash on that I would think) or maybe get some Monza II's or even BBS CH's 19" to keep the pescara look but go a bit bigger. Thoughts????

Heres how it stands with the zolders....

just curious, why were they running it with the wrong wheels?

They werent the 'wrong' wheels. They had the Pescaras still, as I asked to see them  and had the new rubber off them transfered to the Zolders before I collected the car. They just chose to run it on the R32 wheels, maybe had a spare set kicking around, not sure.

I think 19" BBS wheels would look tremendous.Don't think the R32 ones look right and the pescaras are not very nice at all.I had BBS Challenge on my last GTI and they were a much brighter silver than the finish on the pescaras, which always look dirty to me!VW should have had 19" wheels on ED30,as both the Mk3 and mk4 anniversary editions came with nice wheels that were that bit bigger than the standard models.I think the BBS Le Mans wheel is the daddy, money no object!

Im inclined to agree at the minute but the R32's do look better in the flesh, ive just decided that after going out to have a look

Id stick with the Pescaras, part of the individual look of the edition 30, although there not to everyones taste, they have really grown on me.  Never been keen on the zolders, even on the R. They really don't suit the ed30 in that picture in my opinion. Some 19" BBS may be nice, as you say similar style to pescaras but bigger!

I think Pescaras look great on my grey ed30, I dont know why they seem to be so disliked.

Alot easier to clean than Zolders as well

Post me a pic

My only objection to the Pescaras is they look a bit dull??

they are a bit dull looking (colour wise), but the advantage is they don't look dirty for ages after cleaning, my old R 18's were great when freshly polished but the brake dust instantly made them look dull, stayed clean for about 2 miles! I imagine the zolders are the same. the pescaras do look nice in the sun.

The zolders positively gleam when they are clean, sparkle almost, they have a very unique paint finish but granted they get grubby looking quickly.

Nobody has said they look good yet

I am not saying they suit all colours, but they look better on a grey car than bright silver wheels imo.

Cheers for that, I'm totally 50/50 on keeping the zolders and swapping them for some Pescaras

I do like the R32 alloys  My issue with them is that they are a pain to clean - just like my Pescaras

Exactly what colour are the Pescara alloys? In some photos they look bright silver, other almost grey  :undecided:

They are silver but its quite dull, not shiny shiny so it depends on the light when the photo was taken.

Agreed - in bright, direct sunlight they appear a flat silver. On dull days, mine appear a couple of shades lighter than the Steel Grey body colour.
