Title: Dent removal
Post by: Robdub on 27 July 2007, 16:40
Hi all i have a dent in my driver`s side front wing about 4 inches in diameter
its not creased and looks to be easy to pop out maybe  :undecided:
I was thinking of buying one of them suction cup things and giving that a go
or would it be better to knock it out from the other side, it looks like i an get
to it from the access panel next to the airbox.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
thx
Rob.

I had a dent on the bonnet of my mini cooper roughly the same size a few years ago.I got a large plunger and used it on a really hot day when the bonnet was really hot.Pressed it down once and once only and let it pop up by itself, which took about 10 min.It turned out perfect. The thing is I also know someone who done the same, the dent came out but there was a small hairline crack on the paint. If you have a few bob get it done professionally but if not dont force the plunger, just press it down once and let the vacum do the job.

thanks for the info, i might try the plunger technique it seems to shallow to fill
and spray up hopefully it will just pop out without leaving paintwork damage.

Make sure the panel is warm as the metal bends better and dont by any means pull the plunger up when it is down,it will release itself in time, good luck

theres a clip somewhere ont netwhere someone pops a shallow dent by heating the back of the panel with a hot air gun then quickly blasting it with co2.

I watched it earlier the guy used a hairdryer to heat up the dent and then blasted it
with compressed co2,the stuff you use to blow the crap out of your pc.
link to the vid its  worth a look :nerd:

Well it sort of worked defiantly lifted the dent, heated the metal up which made it easier to pop out
i managed to get behind the wing from the access panel next to the air box heated it up curtesy of
my better half`s hairdryer  froze it and then just pushed it out left a nice straight finish well pleased.

i think black rims on a white car will look a bit unbalanced if you know what i mean.  :undecided:

I'm not a fan of black rims anyway but each to thier own an all that.

have to agree with you, silver all the way, but ats cups have some black detailing that might match in with the black detailing of the car. think i may make a purchase of some cups one day... have more needy things to spend on though...
