Hi guys,
I know this subject has probably been covered about 100 times but does a k&n actually make that big a difference? Ive been considering getting one for a while now nut is it worth it, i also heard it can have the opposite effect than what u want and actually make u lose power!
What do u think/know?

Make a nice noise, and because the induction kit draws air in from the engine bay, the warm air can have a detrimental effect on performance.
Save yourself the cash, and drill holes in the airbox. It'll have the same effect.
*Sorry, realised you probably meant just a panel filter, not an induction kit.*

Don't drill too many holes, had to change it cause it sounded like the exhaust was blowing. The cone filter's do make a lovely induction noise, but apprently it does reduce torque levels. Definately go for K&N panel filter though, like i did, the standard paper filter's block up too quick.

An induction kit (K&N 57i) gives an extra 3bhp on a 16v.
Proved by rolling roads!

I was informed by someone in the trade that an induction kit on a siemns 8v can cause maf sensor problems due to them being oiled!!

i agree they feel less torquey thats why i removed mine on some cars ive had, but if you rev them harder they do produce a bit more power and a nice noise, I prefer the panel filter they sound a bit meatier and have incresed air flow, there a good comprimise

Yeah the oil on Jetex style filters buggers the sensors in time. In a test the standard filter performed the best at filtering. Personally the little bhp gain you get from aftermarket filters ain't worth the trouble.

Don,t get a PiperX filter mine just feel apart after a year.
