Title: wheel ofset how do you work it out

how does wheel ofset work is it the higher the the number the further out a wheel sticks out or other way round also what is the standard ofset for a standard gti also do spacers add or subtract from ofset cheers

The lower the offset, the further the wheel sticks out. The higher the offset the more it "sticks in". Standard offset is around 35-38 on a mk2. Adding spacers detracts from the offset, so some 10mm spacers with wheels with an offset of 38 will give an offset of 28.
