Title: Fed up, cheesed off, totally in a bad mood!
Post by: Simonet on 26 July 2007, 09:38
but it's my own fault.... looked at some else's miss fortune and clipped a curb onto the slip road. Result, two damaged Alloys and Two damaged Tyres!

Anyone selling their ED30 Alloys!!!!

Unlucky mate, horrible feeling when you hear the rims scrape against the kerb ain't it!? When some idiot pranged my wing the other week they also slightly scuffed the rim, very minor, but I phoned VW for a price for a replacement just out of interest and they wanted 350 odd quid + VAT!  So I didn't bother.

if they are 17" then you can get them refurbed for around £60 per alloy.
If theya re 18" then good luck trying to refurb them as theya are 2 tone

Thanks.... They are the 18" Pescara / Peskara whatever they are called Edition 30 wheels so they aren't two tone. With regards the Mrs, she won't even drive the car because of how careful I am (OR WAS) with the car. I guess it's my own fault for being so paranoid. To be honest I'm glad I did rather then her, I would have been in a really bad mood and I guess that wouldn't have been fair.

Need the best quote for some new Dunlop Sportmax's, people have slated them, but I think they save a lot of damage to the rim and they drive fine for me. Shame they've only got 4500 miles on em!

Least it's no body / paint damage is all I can say. Still feel like poo!

I'm in the same club. Got my alloys fixed as there were a few "dings" from new and then a day later hit a kerb on the way out of Heathrow.

WASN'T HAPPY!

Not going to get it fixed though cos it's not that bad. I'm sure over the next few months/year I'll pick up a few more scuffs and I'll get them sorted when it's more noticeable.

I give all kerbs a wide berth now though!!

Bad luck indeed. Sounds like a 4 wheel alignment would be a good idea also.

well i've sorted the tyres.... £240 fitted for two of them. Thought I'd stick with the SP Sportmaxx, really find them a good tyre and don't want odd tyres.

Just the alloy refurn now!

Thats not bad for two 18" tyres, I remember paying over £300 for a pair of Mich PS2's to go on my R last year  How bad are the rims?

Ouch

Can't they be refurbed??
Title: Re: Fed up, cheesed off, totally in a bad mood!
Post by: wantmygti on 26 July 2007, 16:53
Ouch and ouch. but I would of thought they are def fixable unless they are buckled.
Title: Re: Fed up, cheesed off, totally in a bad mood!
Post by: Simonet on 26 July 2007, 16:56
I'm hoping so... The tyres did a really good job of protecting the wheels actually (as can be seen by the damage to them!) I'm hoping they can be. the damage looks localised to the edge area and they don't seem buckled. If they are, then I may as well buy aftrmarket ones for now, and buy some other Pescara alloys when they are on ebay!

i'd say that can be repaired pretty easily.. why not go for a colour change on all 4 while they're being worked on anyway?

Had the same type of damage on Beamer wheels before, repaired at Lepsons, you could not even tell they had been damaged, from memory was about 50 quid a wheel

Thanks Phil, North West so I'll stick with the £120 each. We've used them before and they're good.

with regards the colour change... I want to keep the Ed30 standard, that's why I bought it, I liked it as is. Just hate it with imperfections. Fingers crossed the damage won't been seen in a few weeks! I'll keep you posted.

Thanks to all

Like many others, I consider myself a good, observant and thoughtful driver but mistakes happen, and I have to agree I hate rubber neckers.... looks like i've learnt this the hardway!  :undecided:

Shame man.

I can understand how you feel. Same thing with our car. Took out two 18' Monza rims and a side skirt after my mother had to swerve to avoid a truck.

The Monza's had to be replaced (nobody would fix them- due to two tone finish and risk) but Im sure they can fix yours.

Good luck. Wanna see pics if you do get them fixed.

Mike

Yes, because that engine creates about the same amount of heat as Sizewell B nuclear reactor!!!
