Hi Im new to this Forum, Recently bought Mk v Gti Dsg and have quite a few questions i need answering if anyone can help!
Q1 Bought Genuine VW i-pod connector and want to fit myself, how do i remove sat nav to get to back of unit, also ive read that it will render the 6cd changer under armrest useless as you can only have one or the other connected, is the Denison i-pod link the same or will both work
Q2 Wanted to get front and rear spoiler and side skirts colour coded, spoke to a couple of spraying companys and they said two problems.
1. the paint doesn't adhere to the plastic and will eventually peel off
2. Because of the dimpled texture, once sprayed the colour won't match the rest of the car
Has anyone sprayed theirs and have they had any problems?
3. Im thinking of having my car Bluefined, I've read reports from an Ed 30 owner and it sounded quite good, is there anyone with a standard Gti who's had it done?

The only thing I can answer is that I know that if you get the R32/ED30 side skirts and ED30 front spoiler they ain't dimpled and can be sprayed no problem, not sure about the rear bumper though, I thought the ED30 and Standard GTI had the same bumper. Also I have the Bluefin and its fantastic, but its on an ED30, but check out the Superchips site, they have a graph for performance gains for the standard GTI on there.
here it is http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/vw2lfsiturbo.pdf
also road test from vw driver here. http://www.superchips.co.uk/roadtest/VW%20Driver%20Feb07%20Golf%20GTI%20bluefin.PDF

firstly welcome!
1) if you have an iPod you're CD changer is rendered useless. as for instructions check out the how to at the top for installing a Nokia car kit - that will give you a guide as how to remove the sat nav
2) if the bodyshop you spoke to were worth their salt they'd give you a price for sanding back the bumpers and priming it properly for the paint to adhere to
3) can't answer lol

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I had the dension IPOD and it worked ok with the set up I had in my MKV GTTDI. I had the CD changer and had the IPOD link playing through the radio on 88.8mhz. Still used the IPOD controls and worked better than the VW setup

Thanks Everyone for welcoming me and for all your advice, the rear spoiler on the Ed 30 is slightly different to the standard one, its just a pain that i would have to shell out more money for a smooth sprayable bodykit.
The spray company had tried rubbing the plastics down but said the primers still wouldn't stick and would almost peel off in sheets, they said you could possibly just spray the paint straight on, but not a very nice finish so will have to save up!!!
I had already read the Bluefin write up on s/chips site but thanks anyway!
I will read the Nokia Installation writeup. Cheers

Any good bodyshop should be able to plastic prime the parts sand down and spray them to a smooth finish,
Where i worki had my old Black GTi parts sprayed -

thanks for the pics! it looks much better colour coded doesn't it, I will enquire round a few more places,
could i ask what sort of price you payed to have yours done?
-
Im lucky i get it done for free :smug:

Its not what you know......

Easiest and cheapest way to colour code the sides is to buy a pair of Mk5 R32 sides from VW (about £55) which come already primed.

It may be the light Robin, but those mirrors look chromed?? What about the carbon fibre bits?? Or is it the light??

....It's rock 'n roll and all done with smoke and mirrors . They are carbonfibre replacement skins. One of the attractions of carbonfibre is that it looks different in different lighting conditions.

I would personally avoid anything from SuperChips, and use one of the more dedicated and specialist VAG chip tuners. There are many threads on this forum which state why to avoid Bluefin!
-
I can't speak from any experience of anything by Superchips but my tuner, whom I have great trust in all things car related, considered Superchips before deciding on being a Revo tuner and he once told me why he much preferred the Revo way of using the ECU. Not a performance issue but more the way it works. There are some here who are quite happy with their Superchips remap though.

Interesting comments, RR.
Incidentally, one of my local tuners (who is also a multiple award winning Bosch Master Technician of the Year ) is an agent for both Superchips, and Revo. He mainly uses Superchips for the older cars, with less complex ECUs, and sticks to only Revo on the newer stuff (Mk4 Golf onwards, as a rough cut-off). When I discussed with him about remapping my GTI, he basically told me he would refuse the Superchips - on two grounds, a/ because they were no where near as well developed as the Revo, and b/ the "factory" support he got from Superchips was considerably worse than what he got from Revo.
So basically, you have a highly regarded professional independent engine tuner, with access to both products, but who would only recommend one! :nerd:

Oh - absolutely.
But I have never personally questioned, nor doubted other peoples "happiness" with their Superchips remaps. However, to use a very simple analogy; some people are very happy with Tesco Value baked beans, but IMHO, Heinz or HP make the best baked beans.
At the end of the day, if people want to believe all the tosh from the advertising department of Superchips, and don't do any comparable research, and then get it fitted and are happy, then that is their perrogative. I'm sure when their turbo blows, however, they may not be quite so enthusiastic on the product they were previously happy with!
A similar scenario is with household electrical goods. Many, many people still use Dixons Stores Group (Currys, PC World, etc) dispite then being probably the worst retailer in Britain. You could get the same products at the same price, with a better warranty and customer service from John Lewis - I just don't get that!
-
So we can assume from that you don't recommend the Superchips product then TT!? I must admit I still shop in currys, but its Heinz beans all the way.....
