Title: MK2 boot - black finishing tape
Post by: catch on 25 July 2007, 10:37
On the MK2 GTI there is a black finishing "tape" or possibly sprayed on surround on the boot. It goes around the window and behind the lock. Is this sprayed on or can it be bought as an adhesive stick on?
If you can buy it, does anybody know where can i get one?
thanks

I bought my tailgate decal from Ebay for £31; it's of a good quality. It's a sticker you have to stick on. Have a look on Ebay.

the people on ebay who sell them are called vw-turbo. I think they also have a website, the decals are no longer available from vw themselves but these are a very high quality copy

try to PM a user on here called DSCAM if he is still about, he used to sell copies. They are obsolete from VW apparantly.

The tape/foil was only fitted to the lighter coloured cars and not the black, dark green and dark grey I understand? (may have been other colours aswell)  I have a tornado 'red' golf with a replacement bootlid without it and it does look slightly odd in my eyes, but they say it is a pain to fit as you have to clean the area thoroughly and with the adhesive, apply it at the correct temperature!  Hardwork I fear, but worth it?

^^ nah it came on all gti's regardless of colour. you can buy them from trimsport as well but them come in 3 sections. this is why its so hard to get reproductions of these as the cost of the material and the amount of waste is crazy (due to its shape) which means a one piece sticker costs more than people want to pay!

Might even be easier to find a cleanish bootlid in the same colour with an intact sticker and just swap the lid over !

think i might invest in one some time soon, seems like my tailgate has had some wierd mid spoiler attatched at some point, and has no end of grommets in it to fill the holes!
