Title: Diagnostics Socket location?

Right i'm trying to find diagnostics socket on my GTi but can't. Found a previous post that had a link to ross-tech showing two possible locations in and around the ashtray area, but i've completely removed that centre bit that has aircon/fan controls & electric window switches and there's nothing there.

Put my hand all the way round the back had a good feel round but nothing, could it have been removed and put somewhere else. Need some help, found someone nr. Maidstone who has VAGCOM so am desperate to find out what faults might show up.

take the ashtray out and there should be a slider panel that need's sliding to the left....that's on obd2 (post 95ish) it look's like a long connector block otherwise it's in the passenger footwell area behind the glovebox area...and look's like a 3pin connector (pre 95ish obd1)

remove the ashtray and slide the cover to the right...

Thanks guys i'll have a look again, but I had totally removed the whole ashtray unit, ciggy lighter and surround and there was definetly nothing there.
I pulled out the ashtray by releasing the button on the tray and pulling it forward, now i'm left with a blank space there's nothing to slide just one moulded unit.

I'll try the footwell was hoping it might be OBD2 doh :sad:

What year is it?? I had 2 M plates that used the 2 different location's

I've found it hooray break out the champagne :smiley:. Some evil little sod  :angry: had pulled out, so i've put it back into its rightful place cheers guys.

mines a 97 p 16v and i cant find it in the ashtray?

Right take the ashtray out. Above the ciggy lighter there's a false panel. Slide the panel to the right and bingo. :smiley:
