Title: Me new black wheels
Post by: Organisys on 24 July 2007, 21:03
Bought some Estorils for my daily for £40 last year and finally got round to stripping the paint from them, wet and drying them, then painting and laquering. Had them fitted today.

Rubbish cam phone pic:-

Now I can polish my other wheels properly.

Look sweet :) - Or at least they seem to from what I can make out from that picture!!

I was looking at doing some wheels black myself - I was gunna pay to have them done professionally, but is this something that can be done relativly easily at home? Or do you have all kinda of special stuff?!

Very easy mate.

1) Nitromors to strip off old paint
2) various grades of wet and dry paper from rough to smooth
3) primer
4) Black hamerite spray paint
5) Lacquer
6) Polish with regular car polish
7) Fit tyres, balance etc, fit to car.

Done!

I am very pleased with the result tbh. won't win any shows but great on a daily driver. Powder coating is obv the ideal but at £58 per wheel at me local place I though I'd be better off doing it myself.
Will get better pic using SLR later.
