The ABS ECU (wow lets not get carried away with the tech terms) is located in engine bay, it is part of the ABS pump assembly. Basically you have the pump motor which sits on top, an ally looking boi which the barake pipes go into and which also houses the solonoid valves under that is the ABS ECU.So bad news if your trying to find one like the engine ECU as the ABS is all one unit. Very pricey from VW but available from breakers yards for about £60

i believe it depends on year....upto 95ish have the ecu under the rear seat and the later one is located under the bonnet with the abs unit...I know this applies to my 1995 car and I believe the 16v's are the same??
I think it depends on front disc size early 280mm or late 288mm??

Post 1996 mk3s do not have seperate Relays for the ABS. Out of curiosity, why do you want to know where your ABS ECU is?
