Title: Noisy Brakes - UK Dealer no to Warranty
Post by: yan355 on 24 July 2007, 13:42
Hi There,

Ive just got a UK supplied 2006 gti with 10k miles went in to dealer last week to get a new key ring and spoke to the service dept about the grinding brakes every time I come to a stop. Very accomodating they said leave the car and theyll look at it which I did.

I supplied them with the part number as identified on this website.Theyve come back to me and said the grinding is due to light corrosion on the disc. The previous owner was fastidious and kept the car garage most of the time so the identification of corrosion as the issue surprised me given that they look pretty much perfect and ive never had this problem on any car ive previously owned.

Furthermore they said that they part number listed elsewhere on the forum isnt available yet and get this that VW are not accepting any Brake System related Warranty Claims - seems a bit odd to me

Anyone got any comments or had it fixed at another UK dealer. Is the Warranty pan European ie if someone gets it fixed in Germany do they have to honour it in other EU Countries

Cheers

Yanek

As you have probably extracted from the link above, I have had this brake issue resolved. I am in Germany, but this should not make any difference, VW is VW!!!

The Part Number i quoted fits into the caliper and does work. When i was at VW prior to this, i reported the problem to them, they took it out and acknowledged the noise. The guy then played me a sound bite on his computer which was exactly the same noise as i was experiencing.

At the time, he said VW were aware of the issue but had no solution. They do have a solution now and my car is living proof.

I personally would be contacting VW head office and explaining this to them and further more, who wants to buy a car which makes this horrible noise? Its unacceptable and needs to be addressed.

I'm waiting to get back to UK to get my power steering sorted - VW Germany tell me I cannot turn the wheel more than 300degrees in under a second as it will cause the steering to go heavy!!

VW UK say thats bo**ox and they will look at it!

Reference the Warranty question, mine is a UK Spec car, was delivered to UK and sent over on a transporter. Therefore, you should get the same treatment as me.

My GTI was in dealers today for its second steering rack replacement.  I asked them to look into the grinding brakes and supplied the part number but response from VW UK was this is not covered under warranty which in the case of brake discs and pads expires after 6 months
