Just some info for those interested.
ED30 4500 miles on the clock
I went to Bug Jam at the weekend (Thankfully on the Sunday when I got a little tan!?!?) Good show from the FMX guys and Terry Grant + Monster Trucks!
Anyway.....
4 up in the car + luggage
190 Miles Each way
Took it easy on the way down - steady 70mph
A Little more aggressive on the way back and a different route on a few more minor roads
Overall got 385miles with 15 miles to go on the Fuel trip.
Took 51 Litres to fill her back up
Works out just over 34mpg
I've always used Shell V-Power from day one
Another thing I've noticed is that I'm usually getting the computer to add up to 400 miles
e.g
Fill the Tank up and reset...(comp shows 360 - 410?)
Drive a while and that figure will level out to around 380
When the trip comp shows 100miles, usually 300 miles left
When the trip comp shows 200miles, usually 200 miles left and so on...
I do drive smoothly but I also, once in a while, put my foot to the floor, good to let the car know what it was designed for!
Hope this helps anyone who's interested
Sorry for boring those who aren't
-
So what you are trying to say is that Shell V-Power is better for one day, long distance drives?
-
to be honest I only put that down so people knew what I was using. As I said, I've always used it. My day to day driving involves Motoways and A Roads and I'm generally getting 320 - 350 miles from a tank with 60 miles left on the Fuel Trip (I don't like to run on dregs!)
My Trip computer (position2) is showing an average of 33.7mpg since I bought the car in March and I've never reset it.
-
Thats pretty decent. Im running the 2.0l 8V MKIV and the consumption is horrible on it. Admitably I do a lot of town and city driving. I do belive my computer doesnt give an average over the life of the car (correct me if im wrong someone?) but id say I average about 26-28.
-
My Friend has a GTTDi MKIV and that has a position 2 which just keeps going until you reset it / disconnect the battery. Obviously it doesn't keep the amount of hours, miles etc... as they max out, but the mpg just keeps on going till you reset.
-
To be honest I've not played around too much with my comp. It has an average MPG one which resets everytime you turn the engine on or off (or over the course of 24hours or something like that). I just leave it at that and cry everytime I get home to see that its not once gone over 30 :( lol
-
It will have a "1" dipsplayed which you can change to a "2" with a button, I think located under the Right Hand Stalk?
Anyway I'm sounding too sad and anal now..... just enjoy the car!
-
yeah the MKIV has a 2 trip computer the 1 resets after something like 2 hours (car being off) and 2 has a limit of 999 hours or something like that the books got the proper figure.
Personally I reset my 2 every time i fill up so i can see the consumption for the tank.
I just leave it at that and cry everytime I get home to see that its not once gone over 30 :( lol
lol my 1 was showing 61.2 this morning and the 2 is on 55 (almost halfway through the tank)

34 mpg is pretty good for an ED30, if you've not got it you can retro fit cruise to the MK5 the dealers down here say they can do it for £150, that will give up even better mpg
-
I'm going to get cruise fitted at my first service
-
lol my 1 was showing 61.2 this morning and the 2 is on 55 (almost halfway through the tank)
I hope you burn in hell.
-

nice one! I was surprised when VW told me how much it was for the MKV esp when they said it would cost about £250 to retro fit it for a MKIV
I hope you burn in hell.
LMAO

Average around 30-31mpg in the R32 on the way to work (80mph max on the M25) which isn't too bad but not good enough for our greedy government as road tax is 400 notes from next year. I think my next car is going to be a Porsche Cayenne Turbo or Range Rover Sport as they too are 'only' 400 quid to tax and if I'm lucky I should be able to squeeze 18mpg out of them!
If you want good fuel economy though get a Honda Civic 2.2 CDTi Sport like my other motor is - if you stick to the speed limit like we all do it will do 65 mpg plus get 0 - 60 in 8 1/2 secs - not bad and you rarely ever have to visit the pumps!

So what you are trying to say is that Shell V-Power is better for one day, long distance drives?
using higher octane allows the engine to run for longer in Fuel Stratified (ultra lean) mode so is more economical
-
I know this is going a little off topic whats the deal with this change on law for next year. To my understanding, engine size and Co2 emissions. Whats the new tax brakcets going to be then? All based on emissions?

if the car was registered on or after 1 March 2001 its emissions, yours according to parkers is 194 which puts you in band F £205
there is also a band G for cars registered on or after 23 March 2006 (Over 225 £300.00)

Cheers mate
You are spot on, mine is 194 and I paid £205 on Saturday.

The good news guys is that it's all a 'green tax' and the additional revenue raised by Gordon Brown will be not waisted on throwing more of our hard earned money on the bloated UK government deficit but instead going as it should do to help save the rain forests, oceans, wildlife, funding research for new forms of power to replace fossil fuels etc!!!. I wish..........
Out of interest the lowest band of road tax ( below 100g of Co2 per km ) is free, nice of Labour to do that but wait a minute - how many cars that you can buy in the UK today are eligible? NONE, more New Labour spin!
-
I love the Co2 count on the Lamborghini Murcielago. Off the top of my head its 500+ I think. Shove that in your global warming pipe and smoke it!
-
perhaps the people in the flood hit area's ,might like that comment just at this time!
-
what you want is bio diesel with a hydrogen injector those can actually cause a negative CO2 emissions
-

please don't get me started on global warming and blaming cars for it.
-
Global warming is arse! Cows produce more CO2 than cars by farting . You only have to listen to the weather men/news readers. "The worst floods for more than 50years" they say, which means there were worse floods before that date when there were a lot less cars/aircraft around.
Its climate change alright but it cant just be blamed on cars causing global warming :undecided:

to go even further off topic.
hows about the tsunami fund give us back some of our money? to help sort our country out seen as they aren't spending it? they apparently have about £250 mil that they haven't used in 2 years and we've got floods here, charity begins at home.

Cheers mate

£115 :smug:

did you see that program a couple of months back about the great global warming scam? was on Channel 4.
They bang on about how its this hot since records began etc but if you look at the life cycle of the Earth we are actually in a cooler period!! Plus i think the program mentioned its cooler now than it was in the 1940's

I've only driven 900km so far. Lots of serpentines in Swiss Alps, some city driving, and some agressive driving on highways 120-140km/h, highest so far 176km/h. My comp shows about 26mpg. I think they put 95 at the dealers, but now I run on 98, will start with Shell V-Power from the next stop at the filling station.
-
I ain't put 95 ron in yet!
Have to agree with the Global Warming comments....what a load of 80110ck5!!
Oh, and with the CO2 thing, I love my other halfs A2 Tdi 1.4 90BHP, 55mpg and £35 year tax!! What a cheap car to run!
-
Rhyso, you can join Ridge with Satan.
Amen to all anti-global warming brothers out there.
Out of interest, what's the yearly tax on the 1.8T?
-
:lipsrsealed:
-
lol I think thats for the best.

according to parkers the 150 is 192 and the 180 is 204 guess the 20 valves help it to burn more effecently

Allreet, no other fecker has answered this point, so here goes:

Righty, the fuel "range" in the trip 'puter works by calculating only the last 20-30 miles of "useage". So if you wait until the fuel warning pings, and drive a few more miles before finding a filling station with the correct brew, you will naturally find yourself "backing off" and driving more economically (to prevent running dry in your quest for V-Power or Tesco 99).
When you eventually fill up, the puter now knows you have a full tank, and calculates the range based on your "good boy" economical style. However, when "normal service resumes", ie pedal to the metal, the range will start to recalculate downwards at a more rapid rate. :nerd:
-

....The floods are more to do with governments/authorities/EnvironmentAgency stopping dredging for the last couple of decades and also not building proper flood defences and allowing building on flood plains etc, than they are to do with the motor car.

....That explains everything! I never run my tank much less than a quarter full before filling up, only see 300 miles on the display when full, and never seem to display better mpg than about 29 if I'm lucky!

On really fast highway runs (speed most of the time 170-190, going up to 230 at times), my 30 drinks 13l/100km.

I used some kind of Internet conversion tool. It gave me 13l = 18 mpg. :undecided: Is it american mpg then?

As I am running in my engine and driving conservatively I am getting 38mpg
I can only dream of these numbers. Even when running in I was getting something like 9l/100km. Now the car has done 4600-odd kilometers, it's run in in my book. Going fast it demands 13 litres. On average, with some city driving, I get over 10 litres.
-
yeah... my old engine was much less efficient... even when I drove it similarly... mind you that could be a sympton of problem that caused me to get it replaced under warranty...
In fact today, whilst going on a nice 70 mile drive just for fun (and to speed up running the car in) I hit the heady heights of 39mpg!! this was on A and B type roads in the somerset countryside!! (running Esso 97 RON fuel) Mind you I didnt take RPM much above 3000 (but also making sure not to labour the engine or stay at constant revs - lots of gear changing )
