B&Q

Why buy a bolt that will just get the job done, get the correct bolts to do the job right!!!!   :smug:

Most old stlye motor factors will be able to help, at least then you know the shank and the thread is correct for the job, if the job is done with a couple of threads inside a mount then excessive wear could occur, especially as the mount is going to be solid, movement will occur no matter how solid, then if you know the shank(shoulder) of the bolt is taking the movement wear will minimal.

which is why I need to no the the length that I need, otherwise I might end up with only a couple of threads!!!
As long as I get the correct length and thread it doesn't matter where I get the bolt from!

^ what he said, a bolt is a bolt, as long as the length and thread are right

Really?
You try telling that to a bolt manufacture'r!
Are you gonna use a 8.8 or 10.4 graded bolt, stainless or mild, locking nut or spring washer, metric or unified?
If the hole is 12.5mm diameter are you really gonna use a 12mm bolt?

Hi dude, some useful replies there

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=49436.msg487594#msg487594

Check that post, I don't specify length of the bolts, but the lengths were roughly:

Top Bolt - 1.5" Length (1.5 Pitch) M10 17mm - Original from old mount
Bottom Bolt - 2" Length (1.5 Pitch) M10 17mm
Bottom Bolt - 1" Length (1.0 Pitch) M8 13mm

I used some bolts I had lying about, but you want decent high tensile stainless steel bolts.

why not go to VW for the bolts?? Anywhere is better than B&Q!!

need a 10.4 graded bolt for the 2 main ones, the smaller one is 8.8.  I know this becasue thats what I got with my BBM solid mount, anything less will snap, just ask sc0rian from the other forums

been busy painting the house all week so still haven't fitted the solid mount

10.4 is this the thread type/size of the grade of steel/alloy? I thought they were M10 and M8 bolts thats all???

I'll have to have a look in our stores!!! :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

Stainless/carbon steel bolts do the job??

10.4 is the strength of the bolt, its usually stamped on the bolt head :)

possibly yeah, I'm not sure what thread/depth joe tapped them out into!

yeah sorry about not supplying bolts. the first batch i ordered came with them. the ones i sent out recently came to me bare and i didn't have the info as to what they were meant to be. i asked the guy who "designed" them and he never got back to me and to be honest i forgot to chase him up.

well it is finally fitted! (Using high tensile bolts!)

Can't say there is that much extra vibrations, although it does kick a bit when you first start up, after that only a tiny bit of vibration at idle.
Only drove about a mile so can't really say if it has made any differnce - but the gear change is deffo more positive.

Same with mine, big kick when starting and then on idle you just notice everything is shaking around you. I'm wanting to sell my mount on because I don't like the vibration, everything in my glove box just shakes and it drives me mad.

try raising the idle a tad, I've only got a small amount of vibration, hardly noticable!

Yet must admit, no extra vibration on idle or any other time really, just the kick on startup!
