Title: middle exhaust section - dates?

I'm going to buy a replacement middle exhaust section (the square box) for a 1988 Golf GTI 16v 139bhp.
I've found a cheap one but the validity period for it is 8.1985-7.1987.

Did the standard exhaust system change after this date? or should this one work?
