I just bought a brake setup from a guy breaking a carr on this forum for a reasonable price.
however, im a bit confused as to what set-up it is, as googling has bought mixed and confusing results.
I measured the discs and they are 280mm (all good, decently priced g60 setup methinks), BUT... the calipers say 54 on them, and after a bit of digging this looks to me to be the calipers from a later 16v? is it possible to run 280's with 16v brakes, or have i barked up the wrong tree somewhere?
doesnt bother me either way as anythings better than the shoddy stoppers i have at the moment!

yes you can run the 256mm calipers (G54) with the 280mm disks.
the problem arises with the pads. you need to shave the pads a couple of millimetres to cope with the extra 2mm width of the 280mm disks
disk sizes are:-
256mm x 20mm
280mm x 22mm
280mm calipers are stamped (G60) for anyone looking for a set
