What tyres are you guy's running on trusty steeds? Am cheekily running some old race rubber at the moment and is extremely interesting to drive in the wet on those motorways so I was thinking of 195 / 45 / 15 eagle F1’s on 7.5†wheels. These any good?
Cheers

im running 195/50/15 Toyo T1-R's. really good grip all round but the wear rate is pretty shocking tbh.
-
195/50/15 yokohama's - ruined due to scrubbing.
Soon to be replaced by something 185/45/15 flavoured
-
I got yoko A539s which were good (195/50/15s).... still need to swap em onto my new wheels though

Best tyres for a Mk2 GTI imho. In standard fittment anyway.

I think its fair to say that you'll have to go a long way to get a better tyre than a Eagle F1, I was thinking of trying some toyos but I've hear'd that they wear quite quickly :undecided: but you get what you pay for !

you heard correct.
lovely and sticky though.

Just put a set of 195/50/15 Eagle F1's on my 8v.
Awesome tyre, grips like brown stuff to a blanket !!
-
On my second set of Eagle F1's and I can't complain - Went through the other set in about 5 months but I am doing 450 miles a week!!
Good grip, wet and dry
-
185/60x14 Falkens with a directional tread (512's??), suprisingly good and sure footed, goes just where I aim it!!!!
-
I'm on T1-R's atm, can't fault them. Wear's not too bad atm either, but I've probably only done about 5 - 10k on them, if that. Had Eagle F1's on my Corsa 1.8 sri, they were very impressive - I'm just not sure if they're worth the extra over T1-R's.

just got my yokohamas fitted guys as it started raining, lol since these tyres are not all that in the wet and not even scrubbed the rear was sliding on 30mph bends i hit at 60 with my no brand tyres and standard 10 year old suspension lol
how long should it take or more like how many miles to scrub em in ?
-
I had yoko A539s a little while ago and they were dangerous when damp was I the air and just plain lethal when standing water was involved! Dry condition, I think they were one of the best tyres I ever used, so stable and gripy they just inspired so much confidence through the turns.
Cheers for the replies

I took my golf over snake pass through the pennines (bendy/bumpy 50/60mph road) in the wet on yoko a539s on many occasions, never experienced anything like that
Although I did find them slightly better for dry I will admit :undecided:
-
Snake pass love it! Maybe it’s my driving lol
Goodyear are fazing out the old F1s in replacement for the Asymmetric and availability is poor apparently in the size I want, but I’ve been offered a good deal on a set of Toyo Proxes t1s or Yoko A501 – what do you peeps think about these then?
Cheers

I think its fair to say that Toyo's and Yoko's are good tyres, just dont expect them to last forever

could be cos they's done 1 kms before doing this and not scrubbed in? i know its very important on road bikes to scrup ur tyres in but i am not sure about cars as i've never purchased brand new tyres...
also i found out one of my rear bbs wheels is buckled , could this be effecting it ?

Ah yea sorry I didn't read that bit... I have no idea what scrubbing in tyres need really, although I always take it easy for the first few miles
