Last night on way back from work driving along and all of a sudden the revs drop right down then pick up this carries on until engine reaches temperature and I could hear a relay clicking on and off. So immediatley think ECU or Fuel Pump relay.
This morning took relay cover off just to see if all relays are secure in place, started car waited for it to hit temperature turn off the engine, the rev counters needle is sitting pretty at 1000rpm the speedometer needle is under the '0' mark and the digital displays are all blank.
So I turn the key and you can hear the fuel pump and there's another noise sounds electrical buzzing engine starts no problem from warm idles away nicely. And on the MFA in position 1 & 2 all displays are back to '0' totally reset. So turn off engine go to lock the car and the central locking is dead as well. So have to manually lock everything which does work and leave so I can go and pull all my hair out. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
What the F*** is going on.

have you been ummmm rearranging any of the wiring at all recently? new h/u maybe or any other new electrical fittings?
I mean it sounds like a wiring fault thats all.
check all you can if you have a test meter or take it to an auto electrician.

No I haven't.
Thought of maybe making sure I hadn't knocked anything in the relay box, then checking earths. And failing that a rag, lighter and a country lane or even better a cliff for the car not me.
I think in the year that i've had this its been off-road for about half of it so I think it's the end of the road unless I get a brainwave or one of you clever guys can help me out.

Somebody else did have problems after doing stuff in the fuse/relays area. So go back and check everything there.
Due to the MFA reset it sounds like an earth problem.
Also worth a shot is disconnect the battery, completely, nothing touching terminals and leave it for 15 mins at least! That will reset the ECU.

Ok just been back at lunch time, checked all relays nice and firmly in place and noticed that the interior light wasn't coming on with car door open.
Found out this is on Fuse 21, took it checked it with a multimeter for continuity which was fine slotted it back in and now everythings working. So part of the panic over, have yet to take it out for a spin to see if the revs are still playing up I will report back.
I'm considering selling it once all faults are cleared:
N-plate 95' 5dr Dragon Green 82k FSH, Air Con, new P6000 rubber all round and no mods bodywork is reasonable a dent in passegers door will prob push out and interior is in top condition non-smoker. Any estimates anyone???

i had this problem when using my sunroof, 21 blows and knocks out the dash and the central locking,

personally i wouldnt sell a car if it just had a few faults, a sthes ethings happen and the mk3 is getting on now yours is barly run in and things can happen at lower milages or so ive found on a few in 80k range, maybe if it starts cost £Â£Ã‚£ id sell it but if a few things go a miss its not too bad

Appreciate what your saying, but when there's a fault popping up every other week it becomes quite tedious.
It cost £1750 I've spent in a year excluding wear n' tear i.e. tyres & exhaust etc., at least half if not more that what I paid for it.

Ok sorted all other problems except the revs dropping.
Whilst driving the revs drop then come back up again at no point has it stalled........yet. I thought i'd solved it with the relays but it has happened again this afternoon approaching a junction lasted seconds then went.
About ten days ago I took it to the garage cos there was a problem with fuel guage i.e. not working. Is it possible that whilst they were working on the fuel system that air could of got in the fuel pipes leading to and from the pump? :undecided: This hasn't happened before.
