Title: Rear washer
Post by: JezGTI on 19 February 2004, 14:39
Rear washer has just stopped working, the pump is still whirring but the water is coming out of the offside corner of the rear bumper??  Was working 10 minutes earlier, a pipe come loose??

I just fixed this problem on my Mk2 last weekend.
If you open the boot, look behind the right hand side light cluster, you will find the pipe for the rear washer. Mine had a larger bit of pipe round it two join to bits of pipe together and had just come apart. Push them back together and hey presto.

:)

Looked briefly earlier, did see anything, will look again.  If the problem is with the pump do you know where is it located? Cheers Jez.

I found that the pipe was partially hidden by the boot lining, right in the corner. The two bits of pipe were just hanging down instead of being joined.
I think my Mk2 only has the pump on the washer bottle under the bonnet (and heated washer jets on the front ;)  ), but some have a second bottle and pump for the rear washer.

If you can hear the pump going, and there is water in the bottle, but you're not getting anything out the washer, you probably have a break in the pipe.

You were bang on Nott, the two pieces of hose had separated, just reconnected them and job done.  Just need to work out how I get the water jet to hit the window rather than go over the top or into the bottom moulding facia, awkward bugger it is!  Cheers again.

get a pin and stick it down the nozzle and then you can turn the jet. might clear a bit of crap out too ;)

Already did that, it just seems difficult to hit the right area on the screen, it either hits the underside of the spoiler or goes into its own moulding, I'll suss it I guess.
