Hello, I've currently got a problem with leaks and I've seen something called a rain tray mentioned - has anyone got a picture of a golf with it's bonnet open so I can see one?

Hi, sometimes its known as a plastic scuttle, is the flimsy plastic thing when you open your bonnet that hides the windscreen motor and mech, its held in by some spring clips under the rubber seals (go the width of the bonnet) when you remove this you will see all sorts of old leaves and bits etc, clear this out and you sshould be able to two ducts(holes) either side tucked in against the wings, if you prod these with something like an old wire coathanger it should unblock the drains, as your water is probably getting in through the heater fan gauze-which is prob why your footwells are soppin!
If you use the search function, I think you could find some pics to help you out.

Yeah, my problem seems to be I haven't got one
I'll have to source one from somewhere.

You can get some which seem to be heavier duty, the standard ones were flimsy plastic like the inside of a cadbury biscuit tin! so postage would be a nightmare, so a trip down to the local breakers or from a local vw meet then, shouldn't think not having one will allow more water in, think you have issues with your drain holes.
Hope the sun shines soon!!!!

Well some of the water coming leaked from the bit of the heater which meets behind the centre console. I've already looked at the passenger side drain and it seems to be ok.
Getting another rain tray would at least eliminate that from potential problems I suppose.

later big bumper model cars 89 onwards have a hard plastic scuttle cover, earlier models have the flimsy plastic jobs

Any idea how much they are new?
