Title: Indicators not working HELP! - Mk2 16v 1989
Post by: topbloke77 on 14 July 2007, 16:52
Today my stereo stopped producing any sound. So I decided to remove it and check the connections. Everything looked ok so I presume its knackered. (its old)

However after removing and refitting the stereo it would appear that my indicators are dead!

If i put the indicators ON the dash LED lights up and stays on. None of the indicators are illuminated.

Exactly the same if i use the hazzards. (Hazzard switch on dash)

Does anyone know what relay and fuses i should be checking? Or does anyone have any suggestion as to what may be wrong.

Thanks

Ian

firstly have you check  all bulbs are correct (prob not the problem tho, due to stereo fitting you prob blown a fuse)

i've had a look in my haynes for my mk2 and i th8nk its fuse 19, chapter 12 in red version, cant find it in green. yes im a geek and have both versions! for sale if you want £8 each posted! :)

Fuse 19 is ok!

I found the fuse layout and info on the removeable cover of the fuse box.

Anyone know what RELAY i should be looking at. I presume it a relay that makes the tick-tock noise when you indicate?

Any further HELP appreciated

Removed the faulty stereo and checked all the cabling that i might of disturbed and to my surprize the signal started working again, and then they died in the middle of tick-tocking. The power sort of faded in the relay. Im going to replace the relay to eliminate this.

Does anyone know where all the cabling in the dash is earthed to? Im thinking it might be a bad earth also.

Miraculously the indicators have been working since i went out for a drive today. This is not going to be easy to eliminate this problem. Im sure it will return.

Zoe check the Relay in position 12. It might have a number 21 written on the relay. (on a 16V)  It would be worth replacing that as a first measure.

My indicators are working fine now and i did nothing! OLD CARS.... u gotta love em!
