Title: Crap Heap Challenge
Post by: mafri on 12 July 2007, 13:44
Apparently, if you laugh at yourself and share things you start to feel better.... ahem, here goes...

I've changed my job, which meant that I would no longer have a company car. I was a very nice Audi A3 Sportback 140PS Diesel, so I accepted the new job with a hint of regret. Nonetheless, I took pleasure in promising myself a new Golf GTI, Diamond Black, DSG, 18" Monzas, Cruise, Ipod etc - and ordered the car as soon as I had confirmation of the new job.

Unfortunately the lease company for the old car wouldn't budge from taking the car back on 29 June - and the new Golf won't be available until the 3rd week of August - might as well hold off and get a 57 reg on 1st September.

That left me with a gap to fill, as I needed a car to get around in the interim! Renting would have cost a fortune, and I didn't want the hassle of buying/selling privately - so the guy at the dealership introduced me to someone who'd sell me a 'basic' car and buy it back (less £200) in a couple of months time.

I've really had to suck in my man-pride for this one - I'm sure it will be worth it in the end, but..........

Please, be gentle!

Yeh, drop it about 20mm on koni's and some 19 inch BBS. Then maybe a votex body kit and REVO remap and a straight through exhaust.

No seriously, surviving the sh1t heap will make the GTi more fantastic when it arrives.

...they will buy it back.... less 200. In a few months you may have to pay them to take it.

Damn that's sweet. Can't believe someone has removed the standard fit pillows and flat cap from the rear shelf though.

Yep, walnut it is. I shouldn't grumble, it has a bespoke water feature in the back, and electric window switches. I use the word 'switches' very carefully, as I don't think they're connected to the windows........!

Still, it's got a brand new MOT. Which leads me to believe that:

- It's scarey what gets through an MOT with minimal comment, or
- Steve Wonder has opened a car care centre.

jv, the pillows and flat cap are in my garage - now if only I could get rid of the smell of boiled cabbage.......!

Yep, walnut it is.

I'm sooooo jealous!!!

MOT's mean nothing!  I bought a Honda Integra which had been MOT'd 2 days before buying it... the ABS didnt work, the rear foglight didnt work, a balljoint was broken - and it had about 50 other things wrong with it after I had an independent inspection done on it.  It was a badly repaired accident damaged car (must've been near a right off!)  Thankfully it was from a garage, who took it back and gave me a full refund.  I know of at LEAST 2 other people who have bought and returned the same vehicle to the same garage (after I send them a copy of my report!!!)
Scumbags!

£200 for 2 months rental on a pile of Sh!t. Are you sure the guy selling it didn't mean you could buy it for £200?

Or did he mean that he will give YOU £200 for driving it for 2 months

I've seen better cars written off in the Sheffield flood

I think you should post it on the "I love white" thread, as I'm sure they'll appreciate it more

I have more if you can take it

Annual insurance of 68% the price of the car! It got messy as I had to go for the company that gave the cheapest quote on the Golf, as I'll have to make the change in a couple of months. The company have done me no favours by reporting a couple of minor break-ins to my company car, which count against me  , so the premium for the GTI will be around £680 - double the cost of insuring the Rover.

For a car that's worth 48 times more! Apparently, that's because cars like old Rovers are easy hits for joy riders, etc. Personally, I don't think any self-respecting, backwards-cap wearing, gum chewing, Burberry-wearing car thief would be seen dead in my Rover!

7 weeks 2 days and counting....

If it makes the wait feel less daunting, just stick a thin strip of red masking tape on the gril, cut out the letters "GTI" from silver card and stick them on the front and rear!  Then change the rover badge to a vw badge!

And there was me feeling bad about me selling my Cupra R when my Golf has been delayed until early September.

I bought an L reg Polo to potter around in for £500.

As they say it can always be worse.
