Replaced that old chestnut of a relay no 30 ( ECU relay) about a month ago. Since then, power has been unleashed and the thing runs like it should.
However yesterday, I noticed poor fuel consumption and lack of power. Subsequently also noticed no 30 relay was fairly hot to the touch. I did the old trick of disconnecting the battery for a bit, re-connecting and that seems to have cured it......for now.
couple of questions
I know relays get warm, but is it normal for them to get hot?
Secondly, if they are not supposed to get hot, what are the causes?
Obligado

They should be warm but not hot!
So sounds as if you have other electrical problems that need tracing!
Sorry cant help there you'll need an Auto Electrician.

so it's normal for the ECU relay (#30) and fuel pump (#167) to feel warm after a journey?
it's not a sign they're not performing how they should?

They should be warm to the touch when OK and working properly.
Thats all round mind they can go cold one side and then they are duff!
-
warm means they work, if they are HOT you cant hold them for more than a sec.

if they are warm (which mine are) then does that rule them out as being faulty?
i guess not as it an intermittant problem they're working 99% of the journey and therefore still getting warm?? but 1% of the time they're playing up??

I think they are meant to be warm 100% of the time. You will know when they stop working! lol
